Any experience with OGK or M2R top end lids?

Postby Strika » Wed Jan 03, 2007 8:20 pm

Does anyone have any experience with either of the top end lids from OGK or M2R ?????? :) I really like the look of some of the OGK's and the price of the M2R's!!!

OGK are imported by Moto National who won't replace helmets if the straps fail. M2R (made 2 race) are made by an Australian company. :D Bike shops have told me though that the M2R are a weird shape and don't fit many people well. :)
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

I got one for my son for the road, started to fall apart way to quick but was not top of the line version, it has been sold now and replaced with a Shoei. I also had a moto-X job years ago, was a great helmet very light and good features.

I Just bought a plain black OGK top of the line can't remember it's actual name lid!!!!!! It fits just like an Arai does on my head, cept one size larger in the OGK! Mint! I'll keep you posted as to how it goes in reality, rather than just how it feels in the shop! :)

I must have just imagined doing a 120k round trip for dinner to a mate's place in my new lid!! (As i don't have any pics-still don't have a new digi, and I'd rather not subject you all to any more crap mobile phone camera pics  )

Gos wil probably be the first to see it on Friday!!!! :D

Here are my initial impressions.......

It's heavy. It's a composite shell, so it's as heavy as a top of the line Arai, Shoei or AGV.

The lining has a plush feel similiar to the soft cushy feel of an Arai.

It is easy to pull on and off your bonce and doesn't ruck your ears out either.

The visor seals nicely, and turning the head at any speed (that I could muster) doesn't force the visor open.

popping your head up from behind the screen at 2.4 mega Gazelles doesn't push it into your face.

The venting works. From the visor vent, to the brow and top vents, they actually make a difference.

It is a damn sight quieter than an Arai or a Shoei. I managed to get it to whistle. But only with the chin vent open and my head tilted at a 20 degree angle off the plane and slightly to the right. It musta looked odd to the tin toppers  But it was in the interests of a thorough testing.

The strap is a D buckle. It is plenty long enough and had a neat clip like the Arai to keep the excess strap secured and prevent it flapping about.

Vision is on par with a Shoei or an Arai.

It has tear off posts standard on the visor. They appear not to make it noisy though which is good.

The build appears solid, though it will need a long term run and a good crash, before I give it the final Strika seal of approval.

Oh, and one last factor which was an added bonus, the price!!!! :D I had a budget of $400 or a little more if I pushed to spend, and could almost have bought 2 for that!!!! The shop had $325 on the tag, me old mate charged me $270 for it!!!!!! I near fell over!! Couldn't get the cash outta my wallet fast enough!!! I havn't paid less that $650 for a Helmet in 14 years!!!!! Not one that actually fitted me right anyhoo!!!!

That's what I thought Neka! Other places had the plain ones tagged at $399 and the graphics were $499, whereas these guys had em tagged at $325 for the plain colours and $425 or something close to that for the graphics. I know the guy there well (for 15 years actually  ) so he looked after me. But they do not appear to look cheap like some low to mid end lids do. Especially inside the Helmet. It's very comfy while still firm. I am doing a few k's on friday, so I will let you know how it goes over a long day. I had it on for a max of an hour yesterday and no hot spots or irritation where noticed.

Also, I didn't mention it yesterday, but the finish on it is pretty good too. The black is a really nice glossy black like us old dudes love so much!

I only know of three stockist in Melbourne Mina. Spot on in the city, Stafford Yamaha at heidelberg and Bikemart at Ringwood, although I am lead to believe that someone in Brighton has them too. Shop around to see who will look after you.

dont mind the look of the OGK's at all, was actually talking to a mate tonight bout helmets and mentioned i quite liked em.

big guy seems happy with his FF4 robbie bugden replica - its a pretty swish looking helmet.
