Does anyone have any bright ideas on helmets that are quieter than others?

I got a new one last winter (Shark RSF2i) and its louder than my old cheapy AGV. I tried Mal's Shoei Diabolic on the weekend and it wasn't much better.

Mine makes my ears ring after about half hour and I've resorted to earplugs but hate them. Even the soft foamy work ones hurt after a while.

Any suggestions appreciated

My old-ish Shoei RF800 is the quietest helmet I have ever owned. Bought a Diabolic last year bloody oath its Diabolic - on your ears !!

The only way to check is road-test them.......you need a *real* friendly bike shop for that....

i got no suggestions on helmets but i have found proper fitting ear plugs to be the solution for me.

Not those foam things cause they often dont seal properly etc - but proper custom made ear plugs.
you can usually buy a pair at bike shows/races etc. I lost one of mine but i have found a DIY kit on the net which should sort me out.

it hasnt arrived yet so i cant say if it works.

Yes thanks I did see that. I really don't wanna do earplugs though, cause another little problem I have with them is that I usually forget to put them in (like we don't have enough gear to put on already)

i know exactly what you mean
they shit me as well but i figure i better try to use them....
im sure one day i will be glad i did...

A lot of wind noise comes in from under your chin. So often the hats with a high neck line will be a bit noiser, although they will allow you more head movement and be lighter. I remember seeing a fitting in England, an elasticated thing that fitted round the bottom of the hat and would streatch over you hear (or something like that). Idea was to reduce the open hole around you neck, without strangling you, and cut out the wind noise. Maybe a big neck scarf would go the same job?

So based on this would a "Flip up" helmet be quieter as they have smaller neck holes 'cos you don't have to fit your noggin through 'em?

You'll find that the more "race rep" the helmet is the noisier it gets.
with more air vents and more scoops etc its all adds to the road noise.

If you want a quiet helmet then I'd look at something less sporty

maybe go to a BMW bike shop Might not be very sporty but they may have just what you need.

I dunno, my helmets have never talked loud enough to make me notice.

I put two of them next to each other once, made them some tea and bikkies. they had a lovely day.

As long as you're comfortable with a second mortgage to pay for it of course..

Cheaper than a Lot of Arai and Shoei Helmets!
