Best leather care

Postby Mr Sparkle » Thu Nov 16, 2006 12:06 pm

First non introductory post, woo hoo...

Down to business,

I have a Dainese Charger jacket, just wondering what the best proudcts are to look after the leather as all of my friends have cloth/touring jackets.

After a decent day, half day ride I give it a wipe down with a damp chux to clean off all the bugs that managed to fill the space I was moving into, though after that, I don't know what would be best to look after the leather.

Any tips on what you use ?

You can get the zippy flat packs of Leather Wipes from the cheap shops, works OK.
I use Lanolin cream $$$ & Also have used Zorbel leather conditioner(Shoe repairers sell it).

I don't do mine that often (bug splats look race) but when I do (usually every six months) I use Zorbel. Seems to do a pretty good job. In the past I've used Dubbin and it was good too.

I use a product called Ge Wy.
You can get it from shops that sell saddles and stuff.

Good product and easy to use.
After a ride a simple damp cloth and the bugs and shit wipes straight off.

Doesn't Dubbin do something to the threads?

Use a good quality saddle soap (I use one that comes in a solid block- think its Joeseph Lyddy) and rub Gently! When done use a dressing like Gleam (this sort of stuff is available from horse places like Saddleworld or Horseland)

Trust me. I may not have had a motorcycle for very long, but I have been around horses for nearly 30years.

I couldn't be bothered apart from cleaning off the bugs with a damp cloth. I'll either trash them crashing, get too fat for them, or they will go out of style, well before the leather starts to get grumpy!!!!!

:x them's Fightin' words !!!! *chortle* - as soon as I saw this thread, I was waiting for the old 'Ge-Wy / Dubbin' argy-bargy !!!

The word is that the Renapur stuff is probably the pick of the bunch. But I wouldn't know, because I like my stitching to rot :P

The best thing I've found is to wear them down the local strip club on friday night & jump on in while the lesbian baby oil wrestling match is happening...they get a bit gooey on the inside but, especially around the fork 8) The leathers come out fine but, & quick buff & polish & I'm good to go....again
