SUOMY helmets? Good or Crap?

Postby Stereo » Wed Oct 18, 2006 8:20 am

Suomys new range must be coming out, because a couple of dealers have them extremely cheap at the moment...

Im talking from $360 down to $220...

The model I saw for that price appeared to be a Spec1 (not Spec1R)...

The Steve Martin model...

I was thinking that for that price I might pick one up?

I currently have a KBC Vr1-Euro.... It seemed about the same weight.....

I recently bought Steve Martin Spec 1R model and it is awesome... They were retailing for around $650 at Helmet Warehouse in Yagoona. It's also lighter than my old X-Lite. :D

If i were to pick one thing i was 100% happy with it would be the fact that i can open & close the vents on the top of the helmet.

Actually, I was wrong....

Looking through their entire range, one helmet at a time it was this model...

The model name is TREK....

It was a good fit, and it was around the same weight as my KBC...

Don't flame me but don't touch them

nitro's fall apart less than they do(fixed another one today dave :P), the reason they're cheap is that the importer has washed their hands of them due to warranty problems with helmets falling apart.

Thats the second importer who won't deal with them anymore. If you want one you can have the 4 month old one we have at work that the side pods fell off, took the visor with them and no supplier will touch it. The guy it belongs to would gladly sell it to you :)

Or another guy that it took 4 months to get sidepods in for his as they fall off frequently..

You might be lucky getting a good one, but if you don't, there's no help for you with warranty.

I bought a Suomy Spec 1R helmet as the first motorcycle helmet I ever bought.....so I knew nothing about helmets and what to look for etc.

I have had no experience with any other motorcycle helmet either so I can't comment with any authority...so in short...I have no idea what I'm talking about

however...that's never stopped Neka for saying anything  so I'll just tell you what the problems are with mine.

The side clip-on covers fell off...(probably cause I ride so fast  )..because they have this plastic thing that secures them on the helmet, which simply broke..(dunno why really).

The Visor is a pain to change...you have use a narrow ruler of something similar to get the side clip-ons off (but now they fell off so I don't have to anymore  ).

Even after attempting several times to get the visor to fit snug it still allows air in around the visor (which is annoying in Winter cause its cold air).

The air coming past the visor gap causes a whistle as well..annoying.

The air ventilation system, located on the top of the helmet, works all year round and in winter, it blows freezing cold air on your forehead, which feels like ice blocks, and is really f#*%ed when everything else is warm except a freezing spot on your head.

You cannot open the front mouth vent with bike gloves on....also annoying and a bit dumb.

Otherwise it's a good helmet...haven't crash tested it though.
I live with fear everyday but on weekends she lets me ride.
