Goretex Boots?

My trusty Alpinestars Web Goretex are finally starting to fall apart after five winters, 57,000km and a few minor accidents, most of which involved me dropping 200-odd kg of ZZR on my right foot .

We finally got a second car early this year and I now get to drive to the station when it's -2. Until this happy event I wore these boots a minimum of three hours every working day with the only minor issue in that time being the velcro on the main flap on both boots coming adrift (fixed at a cost of $5).

Alas all good things (and boots) come to an end and the soles of both boots are coming adrift. So, with heavy heart and a quivering wallet, I feel it's time to purchase another pair of boots...

As the Web Goretex' are still on the market I could just buy another pair, but what if I am missing out on the ultimate warm and dry-footed boot experience? Then I have to wait another five years to find out, and I don't know whether I'll be able to afford petrol by then .

So, let me know if you have goretex-lined boots and whether you're happy with them. Brand names and models would be handy as well...

Any KSRC site sponsors with special offers on Size 43 goretex-lined boots also greatly appreciated .

Thanks all 8).

It was a difficult decision whether to but the Alpinestar Web or Oxtar Goretex boots. Bought the oxtar and 30,000k later still doing well... not a drop of water ever :D

Had a look at their boots. I'm a bit funny about 'synthetic leather', not having across any such material which suffers being wet/dry/hot/wet/dry like leather. I'd also prefer the proven crash resistance of leather.

Cost-wise they are about $50 cheaper. I'd need to try them on before wearing them as well, which'd be a pain as the nearest dealer is a bit of a hike.

...but thanks for the heads-up 8).

Put another pair of Alpinestars Web Goretex on lay-by today, will pick them up in a couple of weeks. The clincher was that they were on sale in Peter Stevens and as such they were around $40-50 cheaper than anywhere else I have seen on the Net (after taking freight into consideration). They were only about $10 dearer than the Setups and I couldn't find the Oxtars anywhere in the city (they looked dearer anyway).

If anyone is interested the design looks like it has changed slightly, and the sole has a different pattern and looks like it's been bonded to the main part of the boot a bit more securely. They're still made in Croatia.

Anyway, thanks to those who repsonded :-)

I didn't see a pithy pearl of 'wisdom' from you in the original post :?.

I asked, considered the answers and made a decision. I would have liked to try the Oxtars, couldn't find anyone that stocked them. I didn't want synthetic leather, and the Sidis didn't sound as waterproof as they should have been. Be screwed if I'm paying $350 for a pair of boots that leak.

Black goretex-lined waterproof boots are much or a muchness mate, they aren't high-tech, they don't have go-fast stripes or inbuilt titanium sliders. In ten years they will be exactly the same...

Ah yes, the gentle art of taking the piss...flew straight past me that one.

Sorry mate, you caught me on a bad day .

I was hoping someone would chime in with a thumbs-up with the waterproof Oxtar T.C.S Sports or the dearer Goretex-lined Alpinestars:

http://gobike.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=28_66_73&products_id=168

Alas they're approx $100-$200 more expensive than the Alpinestar Webs and I would have had to build/craft/invent a good case to sway the keeper of the keys to the treasury to let me buy them instead .

Anyway, the boots are on the way out, and I couldn't really wait much longer. The difference in the price will allow me to fund get a new pair of Draggins for the warmer months 8).

Have a good one.
