Shark Speed R

Decided to lash out on some new gear a while ago and scored a new Shark Speed R for Fathers day. The Speed R is pitched in between the Vision R and the Race jobby and is supposedly designed for riders of Naked Bikes.

After having used it a bit now I have to say I really like it. I've always had Shoei's, AGV's or Arais and admit I've been a bit of a helmet snob but after reading up on these thought I'd give it a go.
The fit is really good (seems to suit Shoei heads). In terms of noise I think it's a bit quieter than my Shoei but the real big winners for me are stability and the Visor set up.

When your tootling along you don't get anywhere near the amount of buffetting you do with the Shoei. I thought the "designed for Naked Bikes" bit was crap but it's a winner for me.

Having an inbuilt Sun Visor that you can flip down when you need it is sensational. After now having one I'd never go back it's just so bloody handy.

Venting seems really good and it comes with the nose piece and chin piece included (unlike the shoei where you need to but the nose bit seperately)

Quality of the lid seems really good and comfort is up there with the Shoei. Pricewise I paid $440 from Actions at Parramatta. Retail is $499 but they'll drop their dacks real quick because Bikebiz is across the road and will discount 10% straight up. Compared to the intergrated Visor Shoei (GT Air) at +$800 they are a sensational deal.

I got one a couple of weeks back to replace my vision r and I'm pretty happy with it.
The only hassle I have is getting the visor open with gloves on after it's locked down...I just can't get under the tab enough with my thumb to unlock it

You wear gloves

Just kidding. At first I had some probs but I'm getting the knack of it now. May be more of an issue in winter with my Dainese winter gloves though

Glad it's not just me then. Luckily the visor moves nice and smooth so you can pretty much put it where you want it, so I just leave it open a crack around town.

Yep I love mine. Got a matte black one about a year ago now. And love it. Still as comfy as I first got it. (Smells a bit need to clean it haha ). I have a big head and it fits really well. I'd recommend to any one looking for a new lid to try them out. And for the price you can't complain. And nothing has broken on it yet so big plus.

Been thinking about a new lid and reading the recommendations from the Speed R useers I may have to change my AGV allegiance, my AGV visors don't fog up at all what are the Shark visors like ?
I also wear glasses so are any of you spectacle wearers ?
and how does the helmet cope with the glasses ?

Not sure if the Speed R uses the same visors as the Race R Pro but if they do they're pretty sweet... one of the best out there IMHO. I have a AGV TiTech and the visor is def not on par with the Shark ones. Not to mention the field of vision...

As for fogging up, I think the only big brand without anti-fog treatment is Shoei. God knows why they won't do it...

Yeh I have to admit my lid is 2 years old now it it takes a lot to fog it up. Also it has small pads each side near the temple region you can either remove or keep in if you wear glasses.

Hey Eric, I have three Shark Helmets. Not 100% sure on the current Shark speed R, but many of the Shark lids have a void in the padding to suit the arms on your glasses. Ask the shop, they should be able to assist.

I would buy another Shark lid, very happy with two of my three.......
but whatever you do don't buy a Shark Raw.... noisy with a lot of cheap plastic bits that break off

As Clarkixic said, there's pads in the sides up near your temples that are specifically designed for removal if you've got specs.

Didn't make it to the shop Saturday I'll try this week you have definitely convinced me they are a worthy option
