Anti fog insert & RainX, what's the go?

Wed Jul 07, 2010 12:49 pm

I have heard that the Fog City inserts are the way to go but where in Oz can you get them, or is there another brand you can get locally that’s just as good.

Also is there a product that you can put on your visor so the rain beads off? I looked at rainx but it says on the back not to put it on plastic so I wasn’t game enough to try it.

Cat Crap works on visors, don't use RainX it's awesome on glass but no good for visors.

RJays have a Fog City type of insert for about $15-$20 - it's supposed to work well.

I've tried Cat Crap - have applied it to a couple of visors with very short term effect - seemed to wear off within an hour or so of riding. If I went out the next day there didn't seem to be any anti-fog properties on the visor at all. Tried it on my glasses as well - if anything they are more likely to fog up now than they used to before using the stuff. For me it's the RJays insert to try next.

For the outside of the visor I use FW1 polish / wax. Water beads off nicely.

i used an "0xford" visor insert after i couldnt find a fog city on my last helmet. it worked well, i'd say 90% as effictive as fog city.

Fog city you couldnt get it to fog up if you tried, where the oxford one would show a hint of fog for a second, then disappear. 8)

Fog City are great.

The RJays ones work well but can distort vision a bit if they are not put on 100% correctly. makes things a bit blurry

Like wayne said, I have used cat crap (dirt bike and road) and it seems to work for a short time only, I like rain X, but for rain only and dont wipe your visor clean, it seems to take the rain X off, better to rinse it with water.

Fogcity are great; lower profile than Progrip. My local stopped stocking Fogcity (ostensibly because they had adhesive problems, but I wonder if the distributor was the issue); tried the R jays and it simply didn't work for me at all. Went back to Progrip - works fine but fitting has to be 100% spot on as they sit higher inside the visor.

Cat crap doesn't work for me (on bike visors or ice hockey visors - my hockey visor stuff works well, but only for the hour or so a game lasts then needs to be reapplied. I can't remember what it's called but got it from Bladeworx in Glenferrie Rd).

I tried liquid hand wash on my glasses this past weekend - no fogging at all. Will try it on the inside of the visor next and see how it goes :)

I think a silicon type cleaning spray would work quite well on a visor as it will displace water on the visor. I havn't tried but I think I will give it a go next time I'm caught in the rain.
