Thermal Clothing...

Can anyone recommend a good thin thermal balaclava?

I can't stand having anything thick under my helmet (except my head - thought I might as well get in first), so I'm looking for one of those thin cotton jobs. I'm wondering if there is anything around that is both thin and offers some good thermal protection.

But would probably prefer it if they came up over my nose.

I use a silk one, find it does enough on the thermal front and keeps the helmet (relatively) fresh to boot.

These don't look bad and they seem to pop up all over the place in a google search: (Not sure I want to pay the $35 they are asking tho...)

I normally don't get too cold, but yesterday morning I was near bloody freezing and figured I should probably do something about it.

I used to have a ripper, but it got lost a few years ago...

Silk upper, and 'neck-sock' lower. Protected neck from wind-blast, and kept head warm - silk is the best for this Aardie.

I bought it at the local tyre place (TJ's), so any bike shop should be able to get something like this.

Yep. looked very similiar to the one in the photo.

+1 on the silk. Cost me about $15 at MCA's then another $10 for a neck warmer.

Picked myself up one of the Oxford balaclavas as per the above photo. Will see how it goes.

Now I just need to get myself some "Under Armour" thermals and I'll be set!

Sounding?? I am old mate.

In the past the cold hasn't bothered me one bit. This year the cold has really knocked me about. I just figure that there probably isn't any need to put up with the freezing bloody cold when I can do something about it.

Doesn't the bimmer come with heated everything governed by a rectal thermometer?

The problem with buying this type of compression thermal underwear, is that it really needs to fit properly. I just can't bring myself to buy it online.

And I don't really like the price they want for it.

I'm really after something to replace the white old man style thermals that I currently wear. Whilst they do the job, I suspect that with advances in fabric technology, there is probably something that will keep me warmer and is probably more comfortable to wear.

Some of the names that keep popping up are:

If anyone has any experience with any of this, or has something to throw into the ring, I'm all ears!!

don't get the kit bag one. i used it for work all the time and tried it on the bike once. never again. nothing but itching and to thick, got myself i silk one and it's perfect. nice and thin and does the job. if you wan't the kitbag one let me now i can probably get it cheaper for you as no the owner chris.
