Shoei TZ-R OR XR-1000 - Anyone got one?

Just after some feedback on them. Noisy? Long term comfort? They're going for as low as $430 at the moment and I'm about ready for a new helmet. I've looked around on the 'net and got all the spiels. I'm after personal feedback anyone's got on them.

We went out, last weekend, and tried on a bunch of helmets. I didn't like the fit of the XR-1000 or any of the Arai stuff. The next jump in the Shoei line-up is the X-Eleven, but they're over $1k and out of my price range.

bloody comfortable for my relatively "long" head... it gets noisy, but more to do with the fact ur doing 110+ as opposed to the actual helmet...

its a shoei.... so its gonna last and not fall apart...

I crash tested one and it worked I'd had it a couple of years and ridden about 40,000 km's in it I guess and it was still a nice lid. The Shoei's certainly last well (unlike a HJC I had previously), and at $430 they're a steal.

I have one, it's a good helmet. The only real issue I have with mine (now) is that it's starting to get hard to buy the visors for them, they are not the same ones as the current crop of Shoei helmets. Peter Stevens had the choice of clear and tinted and that was it, and there was bugger-all of those .

Caveat Emptor.

I was thinking about a Nolan at $350 odd, if I can get another Shoei fr an extra $100 or so i'll go down that road Have a RF 900 and quietest helemt i've ever owned (also most expensive though too). Had an Arai once but can't remember much about it, 20 years ago now...

I've got an HJC LT-12 at the moment. My first helmet. It's farkin' noisy as hell. On anything longer than a five minute jaunt, I put plugs in. I really want something quieter this time 'round.

My HJC LT-12 has lasted very well. Had it 3 1/2 years and done 50,000+ km in it. No complaints other than the noise. The $430 price tag for the Shoei sure is tempting!

Current TZ-R's have the CX-1V visors, same as the rest

P/S aren't being honest with you, CX-1's are still available. Look on your visor, it will tell you which it is.

MR Tree, look inside the chin piece, see how old the helmet is by the manufacturing label on there. And the X-eleven are a fantastic helmet, and ventialtion awesome, but trade off is noise. (I had one and sold it - couldn't stand it)

Make sure when you try the helmet on that near your eyes there isn't a large gap between the liner and your head. That's a sure sign it will be noisy and not the right helmet for you.

It was a mid-life crisis thing. I was thinking Iridium, mirror, gold-tint...something other than clear

What I'd really like is a scratch-resistant no-fog number that instantaneously darkens in full sunlight and goes clear in darkness or shade. Alas they are made in the same factory as rocking horse shit and it burnt down last St Patrick's Day...along with that green visor I was after .

My TZ-R is fine cookee. Had it for two years now and have no complaints.

TZR's are great helmets..

I have one and it fits like a glove, and seals properly, and venting is great plus it has the little thumb adjuster for the visor to open it a touch to stop the fog..thoroughly recommend it..

However I do not understand peoples complaints about noise..all helmets are noisy, fit a set of earplugs and hey presto..no noise !

correction... i have a TZ-1.... but its still a shoei and it still fits like a gove ... and i definitely need some plugs.... 400 kays and im buggered from the noise...

plugs are a must. I dont ride without them. Makes things alot more comfortable and easier to concentrate on the road in front of you
