Was looking to fit some sort of bag onto the GPX and have been looking at these magnetic tank bags. Are these tank bags all going to fit a GPX tank? Do they scratch the tank? Who has one?
They seem a nice idea but I keep thinking it will interfere with my reach on the handle bars.
True or untrue?

Hi Big unit,
i have an Oxford tank bag (bear in mind oxford is probably a british company) which is magnetic. It is good and does not get in the way of the handlebars (i have a ZX9R). However when it is fully expanded it gets difficult to see the gauges.
I have never scratched my tank yet, however be aware - check the magnetic points before placing onto the tank, especially at petrol stations if you have placed it on the ground.
Hope this helps

I had a Dririder Rally expandable tankbag on my GPx250R and didn 't have any issues with it either scratching the tank or blocking the bars.
A couple of things though...
NEVER put your wallet in the bottom compartment otherwise it'll demagnetise your credit cards

.
Always use the front strap around the headstem, and never 100% rely on just the magnets.

Never heard of that.
Mythbuster tried to demagnetise a credit card with different kind of magnets and only one kind of magnet can do it, and they are not common magnet.

Well it did the job on my Amex and Westpac Visa card...funny enough the Bank withdrawal cards were fine.

Unit, when you got to take the bag off the tank, to minimise scratching always lift the bag straight off, rather than dragging the magnets over the tank.

The HR has one for his Hornet, he always puts a piece of flannelette between it and the top of the tank.

I have, and have used on previous bikes various combinations of tank and rear mounted bags. If you are doing a big trip, and need the extra luggage space, then a tank bag is a great addition. However, I have found them to become annoying using them day to day and on weekend rides, as you are constantly having to adjust them, and remove and refit them at each fuel stop. And they do somewhat restrict vision and movement.
I use a ventura (inside yr fav brand here) rear rack mounted bag for day to day and weekend rides, and only use the tank bag if I am doing a big trip and need extra room.

i tried a rjays tank bag on my bike.
it lasted all of about 10 minutes before i took it off.
it really got in the way of steering the bike.
out on the freeway it would of been nice though cause i could lean on it.
as soon as some corners come up it gets in the way of your arms as you try to lean over the tank - i basically felt the bike was unrideable like that. it may be different on your bike but i wouldnt recommend a tank bag.
have you considered a tail bag?

It's either a tank bag or mounting a rear bracket and attaching a bag to it. I saw that same advert by Aldi for their Tank Bag so will have a look at it tomorrow.
