Well I picked up a pair of wheels for my 9R from a forum member. The rear was polished alloy front was sprayed a godly silver with clear. So I was thinking to sand blast the front and have them powder coated like my other rims as I was super happy with the result. But I wanted to go bright either blue orange green or yellow. So a mate put me onto a product called plasti dip sold in aerosol cans through autobahn, autopro or online. It's a rubberised coating that people have been painting wheels spoilers even entire bikes and cars. Thought I'd give it a go here's my results so far.

Used 1 can white for the first 3 coats in whit and only managed two coats out of a can with the blaze orange so I'll have to pick up another can as it looks like it'll need 4 coats to cover 100%

what is it like to touch paul? looks partially glossy, does it feel like a thick 2pac or p/coat?

Looks glossy wet but think it will be matt when dry. Pretty Wierd stuff very sticky while wet drys to touch for recoat within half hour but after dry I think it will have a slighty rough touch not smooth like paint. They have a clear called glossifier might have another look at when I go to grab another can of orange. The brightness of the colour at this stage is tops what I was looking for.

Will be interested in the final amounts used, and cost.

So I put another two coats of orange was drying with a matt finish which looked pretty neat but because it's my first time playing I picked up some glossifier too. After 2 more coats of that the wheels are looking sweet. They feel funny like powder coat but soft and kind of grippy.....it is a rubber coating after all. Cost me 30 a can so 120 all up we are getting ripped in australia it's 6 a can at Home Depot in the states on American forums I researched before going ahead. Still got 1/3 can orange 1/2 can of glossifier left for touch ups if needed.

Cool thing about this stuff is wear I masked off I had to cut around with a razor blade can't just tear off like after painting as the plasti dip stretches. So I can see that when it comes time to remove or change colour just lift the edge with razor blade or tooth pick and it will peel off in sheets.

I'm just hoping it survives the tyre machine when I get my tyres fitted. A lot of people were spraying it on with tyres on then just run around need with a razor blade and peel over spray off the tyre.....I had rouble spraying my rims with it sticking at the bottom and peeling little bits of the bead should of just taken my time and let it dry fully before flipping them upside down....

Colour is nice

They look cool , My lad has sprayed heaps of stuff on his car with that stuff and it seems to last for quite a while.

Finally got some tyres mounted no scratching looks killer. One thing I have already noticed is that super easy to get dirty from handling any grease on your fingers will transfer straight to the rim need to be careful or lots of gentle cleaning will be required.

Not really a fan of orange but that looks great.
Will be interested to see how it lasts.
