2012 ZX6R Modifications & Repair help. What to mod & Where?

Postby OT82 » Mon Sep 17, 2012 11:22 am

Hello,
I have a '12 ZX6 that I would like to have some work done on. I have never modded a bike before so don't know where to begin. My questions are:

- I like the look of the black carbon Akrapovics, can anyone suggest a good one for my green Kawa?
- Also, can anyone suggest one reputable shop in Sydney that does good quality mods for a reasonable price?
- Can anyone suggest further mods to this bike? I guess there's the K&N filter, the fender eliminator, a radiator guard and perhaps new levers. Any other thoughts or suggestions?
- Lastly, I also have a ding in the tank. It's rather small with some minor chips of paint scraped off. Can anyone suggest a repair place that will do this too and at around what cost to expect?

Thanks in advance if anyone can help with all this!!

Welcome.

More mods? Insert rider training here.

All those mods you mentioned are basically bolt on. You would do a better a job of putting on yourself using the self explanatory instructions that come with them, as opposed to having an overpriced apprentice put them on at say a stealership.

If your still not confident, take it to whom Robracer has already mentioned.

Who knows, if you stick around perhaps someone from here might help you with installation; however if you're on the seasonal influx of ass bandwagon, I don't like your chances.

Everything you have mentioned is straight forward mods.
Make sure your levers are not Chinese knock offs. As there has been a few issues with them working properly of you dont adjust them slightly before fitting.

Personally I'd chuck a pipe on for good looks and a little bit of noise.
Akrapovic is a great brand.
Don't bother with a filter untill it's due for replacing. Stock filters are pretty good in these bikes.
Put a rad guard on. They are cheap insurance.
Levers are bling, not really required. But hey whatever floats your boat. :-)

Get out and ride the sucker!
Enjoy your stay :-)

For your model pipes are either bolt on to the silencer box, link pipe to the headers or full system. You dont NEED anymore than a slipon but the link pipe saves roughly 10kg. I have a M4 pipe but Akras are great quality too. Do some google research...

Filter wise I found without a PC I actually didnt like it. Lost a bit down low. Nothing wrong with the stock filter for now.

Fender, levers all personal preference really.

Like has been said they arent hard to do but daunting if never done before.

As for the tank well in the meantime if its got exposed metal us clear nail polish to seal it up. Used that method on cars and it stops surface rust. There's plenty of bike smash repairers around Id dare say ring around!

Mate i can recommend STG (link:http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Categories.bok?category=Kawasaki+Performance+Parts%3A09-11+ZX6R%3AExhaust ) for exhaust, got my akrapovic there cost $34 shipping and 10 days all up, easy to install and come with instructions and ceramic and copper paste.

Wattie's right, if you get that akra can & link pipe together from the US, you wont be too far off from the 1k duty threshold.

Do the buy when the AUD is at its strongest or plan on two seperate shipping packages of which one of them is sent to me.

And don't trust them to split the package in two.
Buy one, wait a few days and buy the second package.

Depends on what you want to do with her, with my 2010 radiator guard was number one priority, especially up here, radiators get killed a lot!, Two Brothers carbon can, link pipe (over 10kgs weight saving), exhaust servo goneski, fender eliminator, after market levers, after market front pegs, rear pegs are also goneski now, rear seat cowl, pretty gold oil filler cap, double bubble screen and gold fairing screw kit, lots of bling out there!

For me the first mod is and should be suspension. If you get your suspension done for your bike the thing will handle like it's on rails, that is if you intend to ride it like it is

Actually the 6r are pretty good suspension wise stock. Some setup needed depending on roa or track or both for sure :)
