Need Advice: New Paint scheme for GPZ900R

Hi, very soon I'll be going to respray my 1984 GPZ900R-A1. Right now I'm torn between the A1 paint scheme or the A16 paint scheme. I like the A16 paint scheme but should I go for the A1 to make it original? Any advice would be good. Thanks.

its nice to see bikes in there former glory but you need that personal touch thats makes it your.

a1 with ninja stickers up on front fairing 4 me. nice bike(avatar)

If you are gunna do other mods then it won't matter....... but if you are gunna leave it stock looking, I would go the original paint scheme.......... If it was mine, I would leave the bike stock and give it the original paint scheme........ Although you arn't thinking it now, you will sell this bike one day and it will be a classic or a bodgy, your choice at the moment........... :? :?

yep both colour scheme are nice and all your advice are good advice. Probably smithy5 has a point there as one day the bike will be handed to someone and hopefully in good hand not with the wreckers. Maybe a darker gun-metal colour to match the red? Anyway does it matter with the colour scheme when all the parts and components are stock? Any comments?

I'm in 2 minds on this one - put an original paint job on it and keep the bike stock standard - and you have a 25 year old bike with a nominal value.

Put on a non-original paint job, keep bike stock standard - again it's still a 25 year old bike - is there going to be that much of a change in the value at sale time?

Non-original paint, tricked up bike (pod filters, USD forks, Hagon springs etc) - you still have a 25 year old bike but custom.

I'm wondering who would look to purchase either of these 3 bikes. Personally I went for one as stock standard as possible - even tho the paint job isn't because that can be fixed. Would I be close to being correct in thinking most people who would look to buy one are doing so because they are older and looking back at the 900R more as "hey wow - the first Ninja - these were excellent" or "cool - the Top Gun bike - these are great".

Either way - is this bike going to grow in value by any appreciable amount? Even in "original" condition?

Having watched a few on eBay - the couple priced >$3500 didn't seem to sell. No bids at the end of the auction. The one for $5k....rofl.

With mine I want to keep mine as stock as possible mechanically but the paint job I want is from a later model. Resale value doesn't concern me as much as owning a great, reliable, comfortable bike.

I'm with you on this.......as long as it is stock some change in paint scheme wouldn't hurt. As soon as I got my GPZ back we meet up and discuss more on this :kuda:

if i was buying.... stock paint,, original parts with upgrades( shock,brakes,exhaust) no good owning it
if it sits at home. make it enjoyable to ride, u dont have to bling it

Hi Jet-pilot, you can rest assure that I'll be riding it at least once awhile as I still have another two bikes. Sometime it does hard to make a decision whether which bike should i be riding new_smile-l.gif

Here is my old 900R, its in bike heaven as a Western Star ran over it when he parked behind it. I sold it to get the barge for $2g`s and the bloke I sold it to was mortified when she was crushed. The colour scheme is Brambles red, and the black had pearl flake in it ,looked unreal when the sun hit it the right angle.I had it the same colour scheme as Tom Cruises in Top Gun,as the Aussie A2`s where red and silver ,which didnt really float my boat. I hand polished the rims myself as well. The pipe and headers are Megacycle, didnt have to rejet the carbies, really nice note. Only drawback is I had to remove the centre stand .Also had a sign mob do the transfers , all up only cost me about $100 ,Kawasaki wanted $180 just for the side cover transfers

Colour Code for GPZ900R A16
