I had a look at getting my bike done professionally in the near future and I was looking at ~$2k .. I've seen quite a few DIY jobs where it hasnt cost them more than $200 and looked fantastic!
So I thought I'd try and ask here, if I were looking at having my fairings resprayed either flat black or pearl white are there any members on the forum that'd do it for a lower price?

I'd do it myself but I'm just pretty worried about screwing it up - though I was thinking of getting a spare fairing to practice on too but it'd be good to have someone in mind if I did need help Thanks!

My mate got quoted $1800 for his R1 to do a full pearl white resprey! so $2000 is generous! That price was from a few pro's in our area so no doubt if you goto a reputable bodyworks place they will quote you somthing similar. However the less work they do the more you save, so if you got time and skills rub back all the original paint and give the bare plastic to them!

For 2 grand you can buy "road glass" that is prepainted in wicked colours.... and you would keep your own fairings origional.... I cant give you any advise.... Im going to give it a go on my trackbike hopefully in a few days...

IF you brought me fairings that far scrubbed back, you would be adding around 300 - 500 dollars to the job for me to get them primed properly ...........the paint only needs to be flatted back to provide a key for the new paint.

Flat black............. do you get free sticks of chalk ???
Pearl white looks really good, but trying to paint a pearl at home is not a good idea, as the humidity in the air really affects the paint causing "blooming" ..........That's why for a "good" job you need a paint booth PLUS I'm STILL sweeping up the Acrylic "Overspray" from when Gavin did Dan's raceglass

Rossi are you saying you can rub back the paint and there is no need to prime just scuff and paint over? I'm looking at painting the tracky after some welding (sorry for the noobieness of the question )

What would he charge for a sprayjob?Just a flat color....

cant answer that for him but I doubt it wouldnt be much depending on fairing condition. maybe 1K or a bit less?

Brand new ZX2R? If there is zero panel damage, not a problem.

Run round to the unit in Guildford and I'll have a look, you strip 'em, I'll prep and paint in whatever you want.

You will be up for a new set of stickers but we know a man who can help there.

Your call but I can assure you it ain't gonna be anywhere near 2K

You still need to prime but and it's a big but it depends on your base material as to whether you'd use a "stopper" / "filler" / "primer"............most DIYers go berserk with the sanding of a good base paint job and try to get it back to raw metal, which ISN'T required then spend a load of time applying primer/filler and sanding back with various grades of wet & dry to obtain the same finish the base paint was at............ does that make sense to you ???
