Gday all, im new to both riding and building engines, so please excuse my ignorance or lack of knowledge on certain parts or what they are called.... But anyways... I'm rebuilding my 87 gpx 250 and have recently purchased a 2000 model motor... But i have come into quite alot of difficulty with it....
See the day i purchased it i was informed that yes it is compatible.... Now i have fitted my bike with the motor and i noticed what seem to be extra water lines....
I'm hopeing that some1 out there can help me with my enquiry which is..... Do i need to source out the carburator for that model motor or will i be able to get away with my original

If you are having any dramas, and in Sydney, you could try Aitkens Kawasaki or Flywheels depending on your location..

i thought they were all pretty much the same!!!..... have a look on the net you might be able to download a workshop manual which could be of some help!!! as hoffy said depending on what state you are in someone might be able to have a look and help out

I'm guessing the newer motor will have extra heating lines running to the carby manifold to help stop fuel freezing during really cold weather...?

I came across much the same problem when transplanting a 2nd-hand water pump into my old ZZR600 from a newer 2001 model. You should be able to block the lines off, or if it's the waterpump that's different off the newer GPX, use the old housing off yours (but leave the newer internals).

...just remember the GPX250 is called the Ninja 250 in the States.

yeah i was a lil confused lookin at the motor.... got extra water lines and stuff.... i could only assume that this is what u r talking about mick.... and i thank u guys for all your help

Btw Mick did you get away with using your old carby or did you have to fit the newer model one???

No, I left the old ones in place. Once the water pump housing was changed to the old one (the internal bearings were the bits that had died in the arse) it was essentially the same. If you don't need the carb heating or you don't have the new carbs then leave the old ones on there.

Frustratingly I had a problem at the time with petrol freezing in winter here, bringing the bike to a standstill, so it would have been handy...but only if I was going to hold onto the bike.

Alas the bike went and the Hornet doesn't seem to suffer from the same thing (and I don't ride much in temperatures under freezing any more anyway).
