I am contemplating installing LED's under my bike to increase my night time visibility.

I figure if it's lit up people may actually see me.

Does anyone know the regulations in NSW for this sort of thing?

No different to cars..

Legal to instal, illegal to use (whilst bike is in motion)

if your concerned about being seen, wear reflective vest, flouro gear, leave the standard reflectors on the side of your bike, put reflective rimtape on (actually looks ok) and ride wiht ya high beams on.

im guessing you still want the LED's but?

in QLD.....I got done for having a set of Blue LED's under my Blue 98 ZX9R... cop told me he could see me coming from a mile away. Good I replied, thats the idea. He said it's illegal to have them plus ONLY emergency vehicles could have red or blue lights on their vehicle. I said my blue was more like pastel blue. He didn't like that

How ever he was on his knees, looking at the LEDS (they were located in the belly pan) and wanted to rip the lights off then and there.. I told him (which was true) that they were hard wired in to the system and he would short curcuit my entire system and QPS would be paying for the repair of said system. he sent me on my merry way with a $180 fine and 3 points... Said if he caught me again with them I was going to get in serious shit. His words....

I took them off a month later..... started to have electrical problems with them.

Having said all that... I think it's a great idea.... I am thinking of doing it to my 02 Orange and black ZX9.... maybe nice orange LEDS in the belly pan.. mmmmmmm nice glow..

As far as I am concerned black is the best bike colour there is but it is difficult to be seen at night.

I might look into changing the reflectors on the bike over to the running lights they have on trucks (the small ones) and then so that they don't stand out too much in the daytime I could give them a very light tint.

In my opinion just stick with the lights that came with the bike.
You will only have trouble from the cops and wiring faults.

I can understand that, but there are idiots who look straight at you and still come over or pull out.
Just ride like everyone is out to knock you of ya bike. Stay alert and ride safe.

I will never go back to be a cager unless I really have to.

At this point it is not an option as this is my only form of transport.

I'm not that worried about it, it was a thought to try a make things a little safer.

Black white or fluro fucking orange it doesn't matter about the color of your bike at night as all that can be see of an oncoming motorcycle at night is the headlight!

Having said that...... In the 9 I fitted a multicolored LED to the pilot / park light above the headlights in an effort to catch peoples attention as I split lanes alot. Also try the ultra white halogen globes in your headlight to give yourself greater visibility and possibly gain others attention.
Underbody LED's or fluro's are for looks only and unless you park your bike ontop of a mirror in the centre of an exhibition building regularly then give them a miss.

Unless you want to install white LED's under ya bike, probably best not go that way.
With any other colour ya bike will stand out like dogs balls, which is what you want,
but the downside is its going to also attract attention from Police, which is what
you dont want.

Like slow&wobbly, I've replaced my parking lights ages ago (tho my motivation was
for looks only) & have yet had any problems. I've been next to Police at the lights &
all they do is look.

I've since bought Angel eyes $100 from US, or you can get em here for $120 odd

You'll probably get hassled by the cops, but you also need to think about the chance that you're increasing your risk of getting run over. If your extra lights are distracting enough, and you're sitting on a main road waiting to turn right, with your indicator on, what are the chances that the truck coming up behind you wont notice that your indicators and brakes are on?
