Need help/advice

Postby kwakadakka » Sat Mar 08, 2008 6:20 pm

Ok i have a 2001 zx6r and have a heap of race fairings for it, but ive only discovered one big freaking problem. If i put on the race tail how do i get my seat bolted down? Im thinking i might have to remove the undertray.???..but then got all my brake and indicator stuff that i need to put somewhere and i also have to disengage the enrty that you use to lift the pillion seat of...
I do track days and ride on the road so i need the idicators and brake light, but is there any possible way to get the seat on or is it just the fact i have to remove the undertray???n but im worried its more probs then its worth...
Im hoping its an easy situatio
Please someone help me out i gotta track day to attend in less then a week!!

My ZX9R has a small hole drilled right under the seat. I just put a speed nut on the seat and bolt it in from underneath.

I built a J series zx6r as a tracky, so I know exactly what you're facing! I cut the undertray back to just after the frame section where the riders seat attaches, and can remove the riders seat by reaching under the ducktail, but, I've found that I can actually take the ducktail on and off without removing the seat too (on my zx9r trackbike and on the zx6r trackbike).

When I first got the 6 it had a race ducktail on it but was used on the road. The previous owner had used a large U bolt which slipped over the tab on the seat and went through the black plastic undertail - this wasn't ideal as the seat moved around too much.

I think if you want to retain your boot space and not hack your undertail to pieces you'll need to attach the seat then slide the ducktail into place - if worst comes to worst you may need to fabricate a bracket that holds the back of the ducktail in such a way as to allow you to put a bolt through from the top of the ducktail into said bracket.

Where's your trackday at???

Cut a set of holes for the brake lights and you can use it on the road too.
