I am trying to decide which would be "better"... getting new lower bars or installing an touring screen on a ER6F as I am commuting to work everyday at freeway speeds and Perth is a damn windy place most of the time and being 6ft I find that my upper chest buffeted significantly. I can lean down behind the screen but find I have to curl my back or otherwise my elbows are tickling my ears! Either of which is nto very comfortable. So a screen would mean that I did not have to lean down as much, or lower bars means I would be leaner forward more anyway and it would hopefully not be as uncomfortable to lean down a bit further if needed.

Of course by "better" I need to consider cost, installation, availability, effectiveness, comfort, etc...

I was going the screen but I don't overly like the elongated look as much the original screen (though I could get used to the Zero Gravity Double Bubble Tall) but also thought the detraction of looks for only a 7cm or or gain in protection was not worth it and that maybe lowering the bars while not as much in distance, with the combined effect of bringing me forward on the bike would produce a similar result???

Thoughts? Opinions? Flames? Laughter?

P.S Yes I know some of you are going to say both!!!! But at this $$ is a consideration as I also need to revamp my riding gear (boots, gloves & jacket) in the near future.

definitely get a screen

fast easy cheap mod thats saounds like it save your back and neck from the pain of hunching over every day for long periods..

shorter bars won't help too much with wind resistance anyways..

i think its a simple case of swallowing that ego, and putting what you think is an 'ugly' screen on your ride..

Screen is the cheapest and most effective option by a long way, like, hundreds of dollars cheaper! You can install the screen yourself and change it around if you want to whereas bars are much trickier and not so easy to switch between

Cheers for that... yeah that was a big concern of mine was the installation... not up to doing the bars myself.

OK.. next obvious question... anyone know a decent parts shops in Perth that will have the ZG screens (or will order it in) or likewise an online store elsewhere in Aus or should I just go direct to the manufacturer?? (Not sure how ridiculous postage will be...)

Give Powerbronze an e-mail for a screen, check the site sponsors thread. I had ZG and it lasted not long , corner broke off the top of the screen.

I believe Eagle screens are in WA somewhere - very good service, superb quality screens and a decent price too. I had one on my old bike, might consider one on the 10 at some point.

screen man....nice tinted jobby will look ace. Also check ebay, they are heaps cheap on there..

Mob in Vic called Screens for bikes too but I would go the Eagle screen myself, not heard any bad about them.

I want to try local first and given a few of you suggested them I actually contacted eaglescreens via email becuase they did not list the ER6F on the models they do screens for. Within about 5 minutes I had an email back with prices, dimensions and improtantly about 5 pics of the different screens for the ER6 (inlcuding a couple of screens on the actual bike). I was amazed as most places take days to get back to you.

I think I will pop in to see them at some stage to get an idea of sizing and colour choices and if I go ahead with anything I will post a pic and comments.
