ZX7R streetfighter and handlebar riser enquiry

Mon Nov 15, 2010 10:39 pm

So I'm thinking of making the 7 a little more comfortable and so far these are the sorts of things i'm looking at.
It isn't going to be budget busting stuff (always the case for me  ) and i think there are things here that people have done, or at least attempted to do before. First of all check these out....

I've seen and heard of people putting risers on their stock yokes by simply drilling through them, does anyone have a reason why this wouldn't work on the 7R?
Obviously the length of all the cables/hoses and wiring to the switchblocks would need to be taken into account, has anyone done this without having to buy new clutch hose/accelerator cables. Would my current switchblocks/handles fit on these bars?

Obviously this little modification begins to open a whole bucket of worms in regards to interfering with the current bodywork but i've been thinking more and more of going streetfighter style for a while so that'll probably just go all together. The bike has already been frigged with enough that modding it wont depreciate the value any more than it already is. The old girl has 60 thou + k's on it now. I'm not planning on doing it immediately, i'll probably just start picking up parts here and there and then slap it all together when i can string a couple of weeks leave in the next twelve months of so.

There's heaps of other things that will need to be done like mirrors, headlights and mounts, cleaning up radiator overflow and hiding all sorts of other things. All the stuff that comes with making it look like a tidy streetfighter and not just a sportsbike with the fairings off. Any advice appreciated, and before you say it i'll probably start looking at streetfighter forums for advice aswell.

Cheers :D

G'day mate, I'm unsure about the ZXR7 but when I put raisers and flat bars on my ZX9R I had to make sure the height and angle were sufficient so the bars did not hit the fork stems. I just drilled the top yoke and it was fine. On most bikes you have to get longer brake and clutch lines and also get you speedo cable extended. I've now gone back to clip ons but I'll post up a pic of my nine which should answer a lot of your questions.

The headlight I have used is just an enduro motor cross headlight and the overflow bottle is a sports water bottle, I replaced the OEM gauges with an Acewell gauge. In my previous post I said speedo cable, what I meant was throttle cable.
Hope that helps you with some of your questions mate.

What a fantastic idea  all the answers you seek will be here

just sign up and intro yourself and fire away. on my ZXR750 fighter i just got some single bolt risers form the local bike shop and just drilled the top triple clamp, i also removed a bit of the webbing underneath to give clearance foe the nut

Ben at Extreme Creations in Sydney sells them, but I think S3 Performance Equipment may be the distributor for them.

I ended up doing the same thing. Got the bars and risers at AUSfr and the Acewell at Extreme Creations. (Excuse the crappy pics taken on the phone) It's still a work in progress, but you get the idea. :D
