Removal of factory stickers?

Postby moguai » Sun Mar 29, 2009 1:52 pm

Hi guys,

Odd request here. For some reason on the early 2001 blue zx6r's (end of 2000 build date) they decided to put a hideous yellow "ninja" sticker on the back. They appear to have corrected this at a later stage by using a matching purplish sticker instead which looks fine.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, i'm looking at removing the ones that are on there and replacing them with some more tasteful ones - (probably just white ones like on the tank). Any idea how i can remove these without damaging the paint on the bike? I decided to ask before attempting and then posting "omg i just destroyed my paint - help!" on here

Mmmmm depends if they have a clear coat over them, if they do then do not proceed! if it is just the sticker on the clear coat then you can peel them off. being an older bike the adhesive will be a bitch & will probably cause the sticker to fragment... don't worry it will come off. just heat the sticker with a hair dryer or do it in the sun, when the adhesive is warm it will let go a bit easier. when you have got most of the sticker off then use white spirit or dry-cleaning fluid (available at bunnings) to remove the gum that is left (this will not effect the paint or clear coat)..... note you will have to remove all the vinyl before hitting it with the white spirit.
If the bike has been left in the sun the paint has probably faded & where the sticker is will be the original colour so this could be a problem. Take a close up picture of the stickers before removing & measure up so you have something to go off when you get the new stickers ..... PM me as I can probably do them for you ;)

i had the purple ones on my zx6r and i removed them! Looked much better!

use a hairdryer to heat up the sticker and then peel away! Clean with som emetho and a rag and your done! I also removed teh warning sticker ot the tank and the zx6r one on the bottom of the fairing. No clear coat on them - only on the Kawasaki on the tank!
