Unitrak dumb dumb question

Wed Sep 15, 2004 6:21 pm

I've got a '87 GPx750R (got the caps right there? ;-) ).
I have sourced (and bought) a new koni made aftermarket shock for a '89 gpz600, will this
bugger fit without much arsing about and swearing? (beyond the hassle of a straightout swap
that is). i.e. am i worrying about nothing, or did i just piss $170 against the wind?

Mike
you li' bewdy..joined the GPx750r club...
now
In answer to your question
I don't think it will fit
why?
I have never tried fitting a GPz anything to my GPx750r
coz they are very different animals
but I will leave the final answer to the man who has
done much more with a GPx than me...GPXTIM

other questions on the GPX?
more than happy to throw my 2c your way......

cheers

Firstly, thanks :-).

However r.e. gpx750 vs gpz600 i understand that they are hugely different overall. However looking at the part diagrams on buykawasaki.com it seemed that the only physical difference between the rear shocks for the different models was that the air valve for the gpz had a kink in the line to the air pressure adjustment twiddly thing. Everything else shockwise seemed identical, aside from the fact that the unitrak on the gpx seemed to be of a slightly more refined build, so that is why i took the presumption that lead me to buy this very shock.

Having a Haynes manual and a OEM manual now (rx'd in post this morning) it seems that i've got about a fair chance of it fitting. However i'm going to go down the route of "giving it a shot for the hell of it" for one simple reason. I've already bought the b*(#)$y thing!!!

Then again in the past i have fitted a pair of progressive suspension shocks designed for a vn1500 to a LTD450 with the only sacrifice being a15mm lower rear end and it actually handled extremely well afterwards!!
So i take the "not designed for" with a small grain of salt, the only thing that'd stop me is a physical incompatability in its measuring up.

:D

Then again i've rebuilt bikes with only so much as a manual, a slight clue, and a LOT of enthusiasm and have it work. ;-)

That's the spirit. There's nothing like being told it can't be done to spur you onto great things. Apparently I can't supercharge my 7r. We'll see. Think I can see 'KSRC- team 300km' coming up in the future.
Good luck bloke

Has anyone actually said that you can't supercharge it? I thought it was more of a "why bother"? In a magazine I was reading recently (whatever they renamed Moto to) I think it was Jamie Bezzina saying that he's seen identical bikes supercharged and turboed and the most/best gains came from the turbo. The best use for the supercharger in his opinion was for drag racing applications.

Still, it would be unique

You're right Mick, no one said I can't. Yes, I do like things a bit different awell.
Been speaking to a friend who races a ZZR and a BUSA on the salt flats. He is making just on 200bhp at the wheel, but suffers from big lag issues. Fine for salt flats, but definately not for twisties. The goal is a little more conservitive hp but perfectly good ridability. He has friends in the states who run blowers to 200mph on a 900. They're keen to help out.

Any way this belongs on another thread. Hijack over
