Engine smokes

lastnite went on a ride with a friend who had FRZ, coz he was abit more experienced rider, i let him ride in front, at a traffic lights he just went on full acceleration and i was right behind him, and all of sudden i couldn't see anything infront of me :shock: as massive white smoke came out of his exhaust

i was pretty sure it wasn't the warming up normal smoke, so i thought may be all old bikes would be the same? i checked mine, throttled on , and "white smokes"!!!! but not as bad as the FZR

so anyone knows what problem it is and how to rectify? or tell me it's not fixable and encourage me to get a new zx6r? :D

Smoke is usually caused by Oil.... If enough oil is burned it creates a light grey smoke...

Generally happens when someone over fills their oil reserve....

theres the potential to blow seals, such as the one on the output shaft of the gearbox, etc..

if your valve stem seals are rooted, you will blow blue smoke until the engine is warmed up.....

Too rich will be a brown or dark grey smoke.......

the only way to fix oil-burning problems is to pull the motor apart and fix whatever it is that is buggered..........valve stem seals and / or hone and re-ring ( or new pistons if the old ones are fully stuffed.)

:shock: ..........sounds like a complicated job, or a costly job for someone to do it...... :( :( :( :( :( , hopefully the bike can last me another year or so...........................

lots of bikes will blow a *little* weed when they are thrashed hard, its nothing to worry about *most* times, its when you have a noticeable trail of light blue smoke 'haze' following you everywhere........thats when you start to worry........

As long as it does not do it within 4 metres of a public building entrance, it's OK.
