its not the rim but the size thats the issue, there not making much for 18 inch rims now. Arrowmax, Avon, Metzeler are the stickiest between those three we have around 8 different tyres to play with then theres a step down to Michelin and a major drop to bridgstone with 1 tyre each.
We still have a good variety of rubber.

Now where coming back into summer i'm about to put on the Avon $250 but sticks like shyte to a blanket, normally i run the Metzeler ME55A $160 another tyre that sticks all the way to cavas.

But anyways what width is your rear?
And whats those smooth sections on the edges of your tyres?

yep correct
and try putting 106hp thru a 140 section tyre (on a 3.5in rim)
while leaned over in a corner..
140mm wide! (with a high profile too)
when most of the current sporties are 180 or 190 wide

you guys (Phantim and Cowprint excepted) got no idea
what the ride is like.......woohooo!
now you know why what little hair I have is grey....
and
as for other brands (per their website fitment charts)
Dunlop do not list a tyre for the GPx at all
Metzler list a 120/80 ME33 front only (should be 110/70 per Kawasaki)
Avon list...
Front -110/90-16 59V AM20 Supervenom
Rims: MT2.50-16 Size: 110/90-16
Rear - 140/70-18 67V AM18 Supervenom
Rims: MT3.50-18 Size: 140/70-18
and Michelin show....
FRONT : TL 120/80 ZR 16 TL MACADAM 100X
REAR TL 150/70 ZR 18 TL MACADAM 100X
so
not a lot of choice!
Bridgestone are the only manufacturer who have the original size and profiles

cheers

Dont go on websites, the '87 GPX750R or to place ZX750F1 takes a 120/80 16 inch front and a 150/70 18inch rear. The '88 F2 and '89 F3 models may be different but not from memory.
Also the GPX750 states officially 106bhp not 109, but i do believe the owners manual may have stated 107 hp for the '87 and less for the '88 and '89.
In the latest tyre catalogs recently released you will find the supervenom has been replaced, the Macadom 100X also has been replaced with a 130 rear and standard front, the Metzeler choice is simpler ME33 front 120/80 16 inch and the biggest they make is the ME55A 140/70 18inch rear.
Arrowmax has standard front and rear, as does battleaxe.
Apart from the above choice there are still other cruising "H" rated tyres available also for the GPX750.

As for putting 106hp through a 130 profile rear through a corner not an issue in the world and my hair isnt grey. The GPX with the rubber available today is a good bike and very managable unlike the era when they first came out and the rubber was just that black, hard and slippery.

I've just spent 5 weeks on a 130/70 rear and well the only difference was it didnt last to long, the 150/70 is on order and will be fitted Saturday then we have fun.

Cheers :D

first GPX750 in '87, started racing them by October '87. I have owned and raced two models the '87 F1 and '88 F2.
Enjoyed the GPX750 especially against it's rival at the times such as the lesser power 1000rx and GSX1000. Finally upgraded to the new ZZR1100 in '89, but still kept my track GPX750 until around '93.
After destroying my last bike in Car v Bike contest i came across another '87 F1 GPX so i grabed it, been riding it since.
Also in my stable there is a 636 for those days when i need the feel for real horsepower.
As for a bike the GPX is gutless, does'nt handle, does'nt brake and there butt ugly. For performance, put a good set of rubber on 'em and a solid rider and you have a lethal bike through the twisties which has the capability to keep up and beat any modern day sports bike. One must remember there still racing the GPX750 on the track and winning!

also forgot to mention thats 106gg's at the front, on the ground the GPX750 would be lucky to scratch up around the 86hp

thanks for that
nice to see there is someone else here
(apart from Cowprint Mike myself and Phantim)
who has a bit of respect for these old girls
my local dealer also has a soft spot for 'em too
but
if I may....
I don't think they are gutless (not for a 17yo bike anyway)
(230kmh and still accelerating... at the 'Island helps here)
they do brake...
I had no problem braking with or outbraking the other bikes at Honda corner at our recent track day
but you are right, they do need decent rubber....
and with that, guys like our Phantim can carve most up
in the twisties (sure Philthy will agree too)
and
hp?
Kawasaki quoted (when new)79kw on Australian spec models
or approx 105hp at the crank...
mine? made 106hp (@11000) at the rear wheel on the Dynobike dyno
a few years ago.... after a few mods and a tune :)

how'bout a piccie of the GPx?

cheers

i know one particular gpx thats not gutless, well above 7K anyway

the one thing i really noticed tho when i rode the million $$ gpx was the braking and handling improvement......ebc prolite disks and matching pads, ohlins rear and race tech front end surely works well. not to mention the braced frame 8)

the motor is another story altogether, he's got the starts sorted now and its nearly as quick as the zx9 in a traffic light gp. its advantage is the longer wheelbase makes it easier to get the power down without the front wheel heading for the sky. new_Eyecrazy.gif

BTW bt45's rock, the zeph has kicked ass and taken many names on them...... headbang.gif

although i gotta say, he's not as fast on it thru the corners as he was before the "surgery" guess 3 years of work and $18K+ & TPP only will do that to you.........
