Bike won't start

OK, stuff the exhaust, I need to find a way to start the farker...

My zzr250 has been sitting under my building for the last 2 months since I got all banged up and couldn't ride it. Tried starting it after a few weeks, didn't work. I ran my battery dry trying to start the f*$ker last week, charged it up fully, ran it dry trying to roll start it, fires up every third or fourth try, then dies. No luck. Any ideas? Yes it has fuel in it. Cheers -J.

hehehehe.

Undo all the bolts

Both side fairings.

Undo where they attach to the motor
and it should all just drop

from memory the only otherplace it will be held onto by is where the cans go onto the pillion pegs.

Take the tank off, side plastics too (top plastics im unsure if they are one peice with the sides or seperate), you will have to move/ may have to drain and remove the radiator. undo the balancer cross pipe under the bike, then the header bolts (2 per cylender), From there im sure you'd be able to figure out all the pokery jiggery you have to go through to remove them.

Good luck, im going out now to do the reverse on my bike now. Why are you wanting to remove them anyway?

You'll be able to leave the front fairing on (headlight surround) and your tank.

Radiator is easily accessible once your two side fairings are off (including the bit that goes inbetween the two infront of the radiator

Radiator is only held on by two bolts to a frame that connects to the motor. Loosen the bolts and you should be able to move it around a bit - enough to get it out of the way

new exhaust. mine's all banged up, the guy said he'd give me a new set, I can't start my bike at the moment, so I need to take the system off to take it in the car to the workshop, pick up the new set, take it home, stick it on.

Currently I'm thinking I'll get a trailer, stick my bike on it. -J.

It's not really that hard - just time consuming for the first time round.

undo all the screws in the fairings.

7 for each side fairing(note one goes into the shroud/dash) - 4 for the peice that goes inbetween them infront of the radiator. and one that connects the two at the bottom

Take the two screws off from the radiator support (that connects to the top of the motor) and that will stay on - but be movable by the radiator pipes. (might be worth tying them with a peice of string to positioning it out of the way

Undo the bolts on the exhaust where it joins the motor. and undo the bolts that hold the can's on at the pillion pegs and it should just drop.

All you need is the right sized allen key - a screw driver and i think a 12 and 14mm ring/open ender!!

OK, well I no longer have a car. That makes it easy. I just have to find a way to start my motorcycle and someone to ride it for me :roll: Peachy fucking creamy.

Crimp the fuel line and drain the carbs...pull the plugs and run the starter for a bit...

then put plugs back in, and un-crimp the fuel line. Try again. When it splutters ensure you have the throttle pinned open...ok at least 30-50% on...

was the tank full of fuel or half empty? You might want to try draining the tank and filling with fresh fuel...

Jamie i am in the city 4 nights a week at the moment and available from 7pm to have a look at it for you. I am doing a course next door to the novatel so not very far away either.

Probably just needs the spark plugs cleaned out and she will fire up.

I recently had to put together a bike that was completely pulled apart by a mate who did not know why his bike would not start.
He had not even touched it for 8 month because he did not know how to put it back together.
Check and make sure that the spark plugs are not carbonised. You can either spend time sandpapering it or just buy all new plugs. Reattach it and make sure that you have fuel.
It should start but if it doesn't just keep trying. Also check that your battery is fully charged up or better yet jump start the bugger with a car battery for that extra umff. You might see some white smoke but that will disappear soon enough. And don't forget to change the oil. They have a nasty habbit of clogging.
