Suspension Guru's Sydney

Postby Glen » Mon Mar 30, 2015 10:54 am

OK so this should spark a debate.

I'm after a suspender upgrade for the minitoy and thought I'd canvas opinions on who likes who for suspension.

In the past I've dealt with

SOS - found Sean to be really good but a little slow (albeit very thorough) and a tad expensive. He did great work on the Gumby though considering he started with a pile of crap

Terry Hay - seems to know his stuff but occasionally does dodgey crap (like putting your old seals back in or putting seals in forks with a bent leg). Wallacia is also like going to B#mf$#k West Idaho so I'm ruling him out.

I rang teknik this morning but got what sounded like the Work Experience kid. Nice kid and tried to be helpful but I wanted to talk to someone who knew stuff and could give me options/price/timing etc. He came back with a recommendation from someone of a Yacugar rear shock (Dutch apparently and similar to Ohlins) and Andreanni Cartridge kits for the front. Couldn't give a price though.

So I throw it open for opinions. Let me have it.

Glenn Allerton recently took over Mupo from SW.

Or

Al Samuels at Race Dynamics.

Ive heard good about both. But havent used them myself as yet. Thought Id throw their names into the mix for you :)

Have used both before, will again and you'll have no trouble with either.

I have used both and they are the only two people that we will use from now on. Al is very busy and will book you in for a day he can do it and it will be done on that day. He has set up a couple of my bikes now and is doing Leanne's 2010 ZX10 tomorrow. He does an awesome job and would be my first pick. Glen is at Douglas Park and knows his stuff too (he did work for Terry Hay for 12 years and has the odd ASBK title after all). He is doing the work on Leanne's 400 at the moment, but it's taking him a bit longer than expected and he hasn't finished it yet. Others that have had Glen work on their bikes have raved about the job he does. I don't think you could go wrong with either of them.

Can of worms here.....

My problem with suspension guys is they all seem to have different contradictory ideas.

I've kind of come to the conclusion once you decide on one. Unless your having massive issues stick with them as talking with other "gurus " creates more confusion. lol

Perfect starting point Glen & heaps cheaper....... get the springs from Teknik...... you are only ordering springs so they cant really fark that up & they
are reasonably priced

Teknic do the Andreani Cartridge kits which come with a spring to suit your weight. Solves a whole heap of issues ie has compression in one leg and rebound in the other. Apparently they're the pick of solutions for the front. The back just needs a simple decent shock without too many fancy bits. All up cost is $1500 and you've got the thing pretty well sorted apparently.

Zeno is still around sort of. He does the odd private job if you take him bits, not the whole bike.
