Accessory plug

Just a question , and I'm sure many have done it, but I was looking at wiring up a 12 volt accessory plug to my battery to run a gps and/ or charge my phone. Just wondering if the extra current draw would cause any issues with the bike?

Shouldn't, just make sure it's a fused connection.

just remember to unplug the gps after use not just turn it off


the power supply has a small draw even when the unit is off, over a week of two it will drain your battery

Was just gonna get a weather proof plug and mount it under the seat. I wouldn't leave a load on it for any extended time. I was more concerned about the effect on the bike electronics.

Piggyback it off something like your horn wiring so when the ignition is off it doesn't draw power if you are worried about power loss if you forget to turn it off. ;)

Just brought one of these, but havn't wired it up yet. Hopfully mount it somewhere near the instrument panel. Has USB also, which makes it slightly easier for the phone :)

Horn power source seems a good idea. Thanks all for the input. I also thought about a device we have at work. It's a portable jump starter. It's about the size of 2 ciggy packets end on and will jump start a car. I had serious doubts but it's a gem of a thing. If I was goin on a long ride I wouldn't leave home without it. Would go close to fitting under most bikes seats I reckon. Minus it's carry case. Bout 150 coin through REPCO.

Wire accessories via a relay, and use the horn circuit to power the relay.

That ensures everything is off when you turn the bike off.
