Advice on Pirelli Diablo Superbike tyre presures for my Crim

Postby Lt-Dan » Sun Apr 22, 2012 12:22 am

Hi Guys,

Due to pregnancy for the wife I have literally been away from the track for 9 months now, but alas, I will be heading to EC on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Last time I was out I met a guy from KSRC :kuda: :kuda: who advised me on tyre pressures for my crim. They were awesome :D as I was getting much better wear patterns than previous - but for the life of me I cannot remember what they were. Perusing through Smitty's Tyre Manufacturer's thread I saw that the Diablo Superbike range should be 28psi for the rear and about 34psi for the front.

Are these correct or can anyone offer any better advice based on experience?

Cheers,
Dan.

28-29 for the rear, 30 for the front is what I run on the crim (Q2 tyres), I was also told this by a KSRCian, very happy with those pressures. Rear wouldn't hook up with 30 PSI.

Dunlops are a very different beast to the Pirelli's mate.

Yep seems to be guide for the Pirelli and michy hoops.

I notched it down to 26 or the rear which worked well but did tend to turn a bit greasy very quickly on a hotter day.

Yep different depending on brands for sure.

My front Dunlop I'm running 33psi hot off the warmer and 16psi for the rear !

When I ran Pirellis I was running hot off the warmer 26psi rear and 31 psi front. That was the Diablo supercorsa.

16psi??? Wow... I thought that was low even for Dunlop. I usually run 20-21psi on the rear and 30-31F, both hot off the warmer.

Started at 22psi hot and kept working my way down on advice from racers I was amazed as well.
Considering I got more grip and better wear it was working for me. At 19psi and above I was ripping up my Tyres badly.

From what I've heard the moto2 guys are running the Ntecs as low as 12psi. It's only due to the solid tyre wall, whereas the pirelli has a really soft tyre wall.

Yep Ntecs are a different breed. Even the 600 control tyres work really well at 18 off the warmer.

I have found that dunlop front actually work better around the 28 mark. Some of the other guys got as low as 25 in the front when they were the harder compound and we weren't worried about the tyre being destroyed in under 30 laps like we were with the medium.

Not very race related but my recommended pressures for my Bug are as per Quote form the manual

"Air Pressure (when Cold)

Front: Up to 180 kg (397 lb)
250 kPa (2.5 kgf/cm², 36 psi)

Rear: Up to 180 kg (397 lb)
290 kPa (2.9 kgf/cm², 42 psi)"

going off what is being said here this shit be way to high.

tyres are BT016 Pro and NSW quality roads=crap also no track use as of yet. should I run a couple psi less (me thinks yes)

Road guys what do you think. Rear cold at 42psi seems high to me. I wonder if that's for two up as it does say 180kg next to it????

It would depend on the riding you do too , I know when I was on the road with Bridgestones I was running 34psi front and rear but I was scratching through the hills not commuting on it, and really only a fair weather biker too.....

When I used the BT016 on my Bug I stuck with 36 in the front and rear. Seemed to work well enough for me .

Used much the same in the Q2's as well
