why the right hand side ????

hi guys, my question is why do 99% of bike exhaust / mufflers exit out the right hand side of the bike??

my bike has a 4into2 system that is suppose to be one piece but one of the previous owners have had the headers modified with a flange before it splits into 2 so that it can run a 4into1 system.

the easiest way of doing this is to run a muffler out the left hand side as it means less bends and retains easy access to the oil filter.
do anyone make a muffler for the left hand side of a bike as i don't really wanna buy 2 mufflers for a twin system and only use 1.

thanks.

Probably because the chain is on the left. Why the chain is on the left is because the exhaust is on the right. The same reason the north end of a south bound skunk going west smells better than the west end of an east bound polar bear going north, duh. Have a Jim Beam or three and all will become clear. You may even see God.

also marketing...as the side-stand is on the left...the right hand side of the bike is more visible (better displayed) when parked

so the right is considered the "pretty" side & the pipe makes it more aesthetically pleasing (not so much these days...LOL)

for example you'll notice on a new bike that the wheel weights are hidden on the left side where possible

Yes there are some exhausts that exit on the left, pretty sure Vance & Hines did one for the ZZR11/ZX-11 Ninja. Some other old air cooled Zed's had (aftermarket) pipes on the left too, Gos would be able to tell you every one of them ;)

has anyone had any experience with REDLINE EXHAUST in adelaide, thinking of getting them to make me a link pipe and maybe a muffler, so if anyone has i would like to get your thoughts on qaulity, are prices reasonable and what was the turn around in service time like.

thanks. :)

 I think Tranzac were one of the first aussie pipe makers to do a l/h exit on a Zeddie ? Redroo - a member here who posts very rarely - he used to work at Moller Kawasaki in Qld when he was real young - mid 70's ? He was one of the very first blokes to run a l/h exit pipe on a B1 1100 I think it was.

Me ? I farken hate l/h exausts with a passion. It is just the *wrong* side for a 4-1 for so many reasons.....

Chain
Just looks shithouse
Sidestand
Can't believe how shithouse it looks
We drive on the l/h side of the road so need more clearance on the left ( true story ! )
Looks farken shithouse on the left
Centrestand clearance ( this was the main reason on the old zeddies)
A more shithouse look would be hard to find
Bikes look horn on the sidestand with a fat Kerker
Shithouse in every way.

I think that covers it ?

:kuda:

um just to make sure we are on the same page here, i think your saying you don't like l/h exiting exhaust haha, and they look shithouse hahahahaha.

well i have decided to now put it on the right hand side as there is absolutly no market for a left hand muffler, i get bored easily so i would like to think that i can change the muffler to a different look when i feel i need a change or in the stupid event that it gets damaged.

plus i wouldn't want to be known as shit house Tony

so after the pipe goes on and k&n filter goes back in the bike will need to be jetted and tuned.
i got a qoute today for $190 for a dyna jet kit and $400 in labour to fit it and tune it, so to me that seems reasonable but what do others think?
the shop i got the qoute from is lush raceing at victor harbour, can anyone else recomend a good tuning shop in s.a
