I just spent 20 minutes riding round our industrial unit on the weekend to scrub in a set of R10's

Make sure you use plenty of tyre buffer (chemical Treatment) & be gentle for the first couple of laps then go for it.

For the six hour races we used to spin up the wheels from an electric starter & use sandpaper to cut back the gloss as well as a chemical treatment, this was done before the race
as we did not want to have to take it easy after tyre changes mid race...... worked like a charm ;)

The idea of the chemical treatment is to get rid of the mould release on the tyre surface & it also gets rid of the lube they slap the bead on to aid the fitting of the tyre to your rim ;)

Call me cautious but i always use the first session to make sure they are scrubbed really well. first 2 laps slow, next couple medium pace making sure i get to most of he edge, then go for it.And yep really helps to use tyre buffer.I scrubbed a pair in once without doing that as the fitter didnt have any and the first 2 laps were like squrimy as .

you'll be right mate - first trackday you can guarantee that your first session will be heaps slower than later ones, as you get to learn the track etc. Just riding around for the first half of the first session will be 4-5 minutes and you will scrub the tyres in this time easily.

Have you got tyre warmers ? These would help a lot as well....

G'day Gos, i don't have tyre warmers so i guese the first two laps i will have to get temp into the tyres,i got a set of corsa's for the track day so with any luck they won't take long to warm up.
I just hope the corsa's are the write choice?
Cheers mate.

scrubing in new tyres at a track?

Postby photomike666 » Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:17 pm

If they're super Diabalo corsas they'll be great. Last track day I used them on the 10, fitted I'm the pits right before the first session. No chemical cleaner, no warmers. I had no issues and was up to speed in a few laps

About two months ago I fitted a set of diablo rosa's before my first ever track day. It was also my first ever new tyres and I was already paranoid about scrubbing in new tyres so it didn't help that it rained that day. I was as nervous as anything going out for the first session with new tyres in the wet, but I took it easy and all was well :)

I had brand new Q2s at EC couple of weeks back and was also a bit worried. I just took it easy for 2-3 laps... and forgot about it. No warmers, no chemicals, no worries. 8)

Thanks fella's ! There not supercorsa's just corsa's.
I have had the rosso's on it and like them so the corsa's will be a good step up.I think the supercorsa's "might" be a bit soft for the weight of the bike?
I will give these a go first and go from there.Cheers :kuda:

Just get some prepsol, also known as wax and grease remover, and pour it on a rag and wipe the tyres well, especially toward the edges. It will take the coating off the tyres. If you don't have tyres warmers to then put on give it a couple of smooth laps and then you should be right to go. Used to use this when i raced and with tyres warmers you could pretty much go out hard after the warm up lap.
