hey guys i just got my 250r last week (first bike) and i am loving it apart from the fact i took it on the highway for a ride and it was absolutely screaming 9000revs at 100km in top gear i read up a little bit in these forums and people say theres sit at like 6 and a half to 7 and a half on the high way. Why is mine so different?

with standard gearing, 100-110 = about 9 grand.

nothin spooky about that, (just loud!)
Image
from memory, 13500 in top and standard gearing = about 160 and an eternety to get there

if you want lower revs @ highway speeds, change the sprockets, but it becomes a slug at the lights

experiance is an expensive teacher

A simple way to check is to count teeth on the sprocket and compare it to the service manual. Therein lies your answer.

I just bought myself one today, and doing 80 down the great western hwy it looked odd sitting about about 6500rpm. My mates one does the exact same thing, so it must be the way the sprockets and gearing is setup on these.

Stop thinking it will rev like a car ;) FFS the 4 cylinder 250's do nothing unless youve got 8-10K happening

Get used to having more than 6K on the clock, you'll need to if you need any acceleration ;)

You can think of it as you're only putting on 1/2 the load on the engine compared to what it's designed to do at 12k rpm, so i dont feel tooooo bad about sitting on it for a little while.

Phil - unfortunately these things are only 2cyl, 8valve - absoulte monsters! lol :P

Aware of that ;) I learnt on an 89 model GPX250, the same engine in that as your Ninjatwofiddy's ;)

Did 60K in 14months, before I got a ZZR250, yep, you guessed it, same engine as well, did 16K in 4 months including riding from Sydney to Phillip Island.

So yes, I am quite familiar with the motah, what I will say though is it has been around for so long anis in the bike for a reason....its a bloody great little engine ;)
