Bike Wont Start :-(

Postby CCNinja » Mon Nov 07, 2011 1:00 pm

riddle me this...at home today bludging, went to start the bike...

turn key, all lights on...
push starter, turns over but does not start (not unusual)...apply the choke, push starter again, all lights on the dash now off, no more power to the system it would seem...

so far I have:

Checked all the fuses..none blown.
Checked the battery terminals, all tight, no corrosion...
Pulled all the connectors to the CDI/Computer and pushed back together
Horn works....

I don't have any electrical test equipment...but not sure where else to go other than load her up onto the trailer and take it to the bike shop...mmmm

Did you turn the chock back to OFF and re-test? Not that it SHOULD make a difference... but if it did it would help locate the fault.

Battery could be cactus... hook up to jumper leads on a car and give it another go.

Jump start it if you can and ride it for a while. Then park it on a hill, turn it off and see if it will start again.

Dumb question, fuel tap on? I nearly ran a battery dead trying to start my 7 with it off after a 6 month break riding a bike without one

thanks guys...pulled the battery and took it down to the bike shop to get load tested....dead as a doornail they said....just strange that it just went all systems off, rather than the signs of a dying battery like weak horn or slow turning over..

do the ZXRs have a relay which says if voltage < certain amount, then cut it all?

anyway new battery shopping now :-)

Batteries can just up and die... I had the warning signs and still ignored them till it finally died... but I'm a fkn idiot!

Mmmmm, so new battery purchased and installed...

all the lights on, choke on...starts...

running a bit rough from cold (fairly normal) but won't run off the choke...
slowly even stops running on the choke and now nothing at all :-(

It was due in for a service, brake pads and pink slip so have trailered it down. Any ideas just incase the mechanics cursory look can't find the problem? seems like something so small considering it was running fine before the battery issue....what have a missed/done?

Ouch all running again (had completely fouled the plugs) but failed it's pink slip on front tyre and also the air filter disintegrated when he opened the airbox.....

I need a man shed so at least I can keep up basic maintenance myself without the labour costs, including the new brakes, filters, plugs, front tyre and labour....approaching the $900 mark...

Merry Xmas to me! :-(

Ouch allright!!!
And there is the reason for doing most of the work urself.
I dont let anyone work on my bikes, only 2guys in melbourne i let work on my bikes, because i dont have a dyno, and dont know how to use one anyway  deano from dynoverks, and tristan from redline in dandenong, are the only people i will let touch my bikes, O and stewie winton has.
Shit i never even took it back for its 1st service, or any service for that matter, ferntree gully have never seen my 10 back, last they ever saw of it , was when i rode it out the door. so i got a brand new book with only pre delivery stamp on it, and they even didnt do that right, from day i bought it, it had a loose steering head bearing's, so much for checking it. and thats in the P/D check list to.
I found that one on the ride home...

A muswellbrook lad, how long have u been living there?
Lived there for a couple of years, 84/85 before moving back to brissy.
My brother lived there for about 20 years, married a local girl.
I lived on the main drag out of town, singleton side, across the road from the showground, 2 houses down from the servo. drank at the grand hotel, and the workers club, and the pub across the road from the workers club, cant remember the name, and most other pubs in town!!!
Had a GPZ1100 when i was there.
some good rides around there. used to go to harris park in sydney a fair bit ( mate lived there) so used the old putty road a bit, that was a hell of a good ride back then. had to leave after doing my licence there, 248kph.
Cop chased me from the old oak factory all the way to abberdeen, in the dark with no lights on, true   in a full spec VK brooky hi/way patrol, and yes he ran me down!!!! it out ran a slighty tricked GPZ1100.

Well smithy5, here is a challenge for u.
When they sort E/C out i will come up and do a ride day with u, i willing to put up a grand, u put up a grand, we will give the money to a third person, give me one session to have look at the track, and set the bike up, 2nd session we will go open slather, who wins, keeps the money, so are u ready to put up???? and if u cry foul about the 10 having to much power advantage, i will bring my bog stock, well allmost!!! 96 zx7 up, and challenge u on that, u up to it????
Or u can come to broady, do as many session as u need, than challenge me, same deal, put up a grand.
But it will have to be in the fast group.
And as its a track ive ridin a lot, i will give u the front straight head start, session are about 14 laps, so are u ready to put up???
Just a little tip, sunshine, sometimes in life its best not to slag off people u dont know and never met, as it can make u look the tool u prob are!!!!!!!!!
SO are u a choker, and can walk the walk. offers open.
