93 ZXR 750 / 900 Conversion

Postby ZXRJed » Wed Oct 05, 2011 1:19 pm

I have just got my hands on what's left of a ZX9. I am looking at transplanting the 9 motor into the ZXR.

I have had a look at this website - http://homepage.ntlworld.com/webzxr/zxr ... xr7-9.html

I can't seem to find any other info on coversions on the web.

Has anyone on this Forum done this conversion? And is it as easy the the above link suggests?

Cheers, Jed

So the plan is to take the motor out of this pig

And put it into this

I am assuming that the "pig" is a stat right-off, yeah? Because, otherwise, what's left could be a good project for someone else. :)
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left. Phil

Are you certain that's a ZX9? I didn't think any of them came with upside down forks?

Are you at least certain it's a 900 motor?

as i recollect the left hand oil return was the tricky bit...but i think we reduced the width of the banjo

it was a long time ago & there weren't any instructions...LOL

The B models did and that bike in particular is a B2-4? 9R. Forks and callipers give that away.
That motor will fit into the earlier 7's no worries and is a common transplant, from memory its a case of elongating the top engine mount holes a little and she slots straight in and I think as mentioned the oil line banjo may need some attention, everything lines up AFAIK.

Ask Stace, he has done one. ;)

I just went back and checked some old photos and my '03 trackie didn't either! I was sure they did as plenty of people put upside down forks off ZX9's onto ZRX's. Now I am confused. :?

This isnt about the 2003 model. It is about the ZXR models not the ZX7R or ZRX bikes.

Cheers Jonno - Thanks for the info.

I'll keep you guys updated with the progress. Will probably pull the 9 out this weekend and give it a decent clean and if time permits get it painted.

The next question is, does the 750 motor fit into the 9 frame???

So clear things up then. Why would ZX9's have upside down forks in the B models and then go back to conventional forks in later models?
