Ignition advancer

I have a 2004 Z1000 with a full Muzzy exhaust, a tuned PCIII with ported and polished heads and am thinking of adding the Factory Pro ignition advancer. It is just a replacement for the existing ignition rotor and gives a static 4 degree advance. I am at about 4600 hundred feet elevation and I know with automobiles, advancing the timing at this altitude increases performance. Any insite would be helpful. Thanks. Jim time. :kuda:

I,m looking for some right now, no luck yet. The other option is to have my existing cams reground. I just don't know about the clearance issue with bucket and shim type adjustors.
Cheers.

I ordered and got my ignition advancer yesterday. It was about a 10 minute install. I tested it today and it sucks. The throttle response seems better in neutral but with a load, (riding) there is a large loss of power at all RPM's so I went back to the stock rotor. Better I guess than buying a power commander ignition module only to find it makes the performance worse. I guess I'll drown my disapointment in a couple of shots of Jim Beam. Oh, whoa is me. drunken_smilie.gif

Out of curiosity, did you try running a higher octane fuel? Or was the first test enough of a deterrent?

As a preventive measure I ran 98 octane fuel. This was the same octane used with the new rotor and after I changed back to the old rotor. Every Motorcycle is a little bit different and perhaps my previous mods were a factor??? The rotor is a factory pro RTR-Kaw-85-04. It fits ZX12s of a certain year, (I think 2004-2005) and some Kaw 600's, so maybe it works better on the other models. Cheers!

Well I'm out of ideas on this one, i guess having a look online to see if anyone else has thrown one in their z1000.

Another thought is the marking might be in a slightly different position on the z1000 compared to a zx12. Have you considered using a timing strobe and seeing just when it fires at idle with the stock rotor & the factory pro onee? you may be in for a surprise if it markings differ greatly.

It is a fixed advancer and makes a static advance of 4 degrees. I compared it with the stock rotor before I put it on and it did advance by about 4 degrees. I wish it was adjustable as I think maybe 2 degrees might have worked. I talked to the factory pro rep and he said they were made for 2004-2005 zx12r's and just happen to fit the Z1000. If I try it again I'll probably get the power commander module so I can fine tune it. I mailed it to Jonno yesterday so he should be able to tell us if it works on his ZX12. Thanks for your ideas Mike. Cheers, bottoms up!

No worries, it sounds like you've got everything covered. I was just throwing ideas out there in case it miraculously helped you sort it out.
