can anyone give me the best option for replacing the zrx12 cams that are prone to pitting?
i have read zzr1200 cams bolt straight pin,can any one confirm this for me?
this is the only fault i,ve found on an otherwise great bike that has only 18000 ks on the clock.

If they are not pitted why change? But anyway ZZR1100 cams are sposed to give them a couple of extra hp up high.

Kwick on ZRXOA has a few different options from memory, reground stock ones or Yoshimura from memory.
ZZR12 will bolt in a previously advised, they will rob some of that fantastic low down grunt that is so great about the ZRX.
Pity that ZZ12 cams are nowhere near as common as the ZZR11 ones.

thanks phil
i don,t really want to lose any of that low down grunt so i looks like a standard grind would be the best thing then have you had the same problem with yours?

Mine is an 05 model & if my cams start pitting, Kawasaki will be paying for it. It is a known manufactring fault & under the turms & conditions of sale , any manufactuing fault has to be fixed by Kawasaki. Even if the bike is out of the warrenty period. The thats the way I see it anyhoo..
Some good reading here>>

76k on mine. Cams looking normal at last valve adjustment which was only 1 or 2k ago. Wouldn't want to lose any of the bottom, or even the middle for a few more HP up top. I rarely rev mine over 6k anyway. I reckon if I have to rev it harder than that, I'm trying too hard.

Was there a model prone to this pitting issue. Like can we put a date on it, eg:: 03 models pit but the 06s dont, or what ever. Or is it from the 01 right the way through to 08?? That could help pin down the year this pitting issue started & ended?????

I think you'll find its been since the GPZ900, not a new problem AFAIK. Pretty sure that most models that have derivatives of this engine are prone to it.

Yep Phil is right. it's been an issue since the GPz900. They have only been aware of the issue though since 1986, so give them some time to sort it ok!

Mine pitted at 12k ('06), got them reground under warranty (even though outside 1 yr). Now got 32k and all ok.
