Suspension Sag Setup Question

Hey Guys,

Was watching Keith Codes suspension setup video last night (the one that goes with twist2) and was wondering whether this is able to be done using front and rear stands to get the static sag? I thought i had read somewhere that you weren't suppose to? I don't have a side stand to lean the bike on, so was just going to use paddock stands, is there really that much difference?

Cheers

To get the measurement you need to measure the shock with the bike weight on the wheels, and again with the shock at full lenght (no weight on the wheels). The paddock stands sit the bikes weight on the suspension and will not help.

I would use axel stands - put the bike on the paddock stand, prop the axel stand under the foot pegs and remove the stand. You now balance the bike on the axel stands and keeping the wheel off the ground. I'd say get a mate to help!

You can still do it while they are sitting on your stands. All you will need is another person to either lift the front or rear of the bike to extend the suspension travel to fully out or to measure the difference while you lift the bike. Sag is just the difference in suspension length, from fully extended, to either static (No rider) or to the rider sag measurement.

pfft, put it on the sidestand, from the stand side, pull the bike towards yourself to pull the back or front off the ground using the sidestand to take the weight. then get person 2 to measure from a fixed point to the axle.
