1984 GT 750 Oil issue

Looking for some help with my stock original 1984 GT750. After letting it sit idle for a approx two weeks, noted a small amount of oil collecting on the rear rim. Not a lot but still not something that I wanted to see.

Great I thought, the final drive shaft is leaking - wonder how much this is going to cost me!

However after cleaning her up, and checking the shaft drive reservoir, the final drive oil appears to be where i would want it to be - just up to the fill thread. It is not leaking from the final drive drain plug, or the filler hole. The oil appears to be coming from the base of the air suspension mount!

Smelling the gear oil when opened, the gear oil does not appear to be the oil that is leaking - so I have decided that it must be something else - ie engine oil

It could be coming from the shocks, however I wouldn't have thought that the air shocks contained any oil? Am I wrong?
And I wouldn't have thought that the engine oil would be distributed anywhere down near the final drive - again, could this be the case?

I don't want to ride and risk running dry in any component, but I don't know what to check next? Any help most appreciated.

Matt

Yep the airshocks have oil in them and commonly leak. Check them by lifting the rubber gaiters. Changing them to Konis, even from the wreckers is a huge and cheap upgrade. I've owned a GT750 and several GT550s. :)

Thanks mate - I'll have a look and plan my shocks upgrade.
