miss/surging

Hi, I have a ZX6RR DFI 2003 and after riding in the rain for 3 days last week it suddenly developed a miss (sounds a bit like a nice vw!). I figured it has to be water in either the fuel or electrics (not sure how it could get into the fuel though). It runs well at constant speed on a flat only when accelerating hard or going up a decent hill it is really ordinary.

I have almost run the tank dry and was told to mix some metho in the fuel (I havent done it yet) as this is supposed to remove any water in the system, does anyone have any suggestions on this or what/where else to look?

Thanks
Ben

I also doubt it's the fuel. Try checking the spark plug holes. If water gets in them it can cause a major miss. Also any electrical connectors could have gotten water in them and will cause problems. I still put my money on the spark plug holes. A wet air filter or water in the air box can cause problems but they should go away after some dry riding. Good luck and let us know what you find. Warm beer is better than cold water.

I think it's the 3rd time I've told you and i'm starting to sound like a broken record, but

Change your forum name!

When I had that it was water in my fuel..... Rob helped me drain the tank and all was well.

Oldman has it pinned.
If it was fuel it would be getting progressively worse as less fuel is mixed with the water. Again, try the metho in a full tank of fuel.
As for the electrics, take one sunny day, add one can of WD40 or Inox, some rags, a milk crate and about 6 stubbies. By combining all these ingredients your electrical system will be fixed and you will hardly notice. :D

Plenum chambers are part of the ram air ducting. Make sure that they aren't full of water. they have bung holes {snigger} that get blocked with dirt and bugs. They Plenum chambers - located below the bars inside the fairing - are designed to catch water and bugs before they hit the air filter. When the are full then they don't do their job.

Problem solved - bloody coil assembly has had the dick.

Anyone know where I can buy one in Australia - Kawasaki Newcastle and Cessnock tell me minimum 3 weeks! $119
Vic wreckers have a second hand one will cost me $80 shipped here so time is okay but almost new price

Maybe I should have bought a Honda!! did I just say that!?

Be aware that the bad coil may just be a result of other problems. With the new high voltage electronic ignitions an open spark plug wire or coil wire will cause a coil to go bad. The newer systems put out approximately 80,000 volts to the spark plugs and an open connection will cause feed back that will blow the coil or worse the ECU. I've had that happen and a blown ECU is not cheap.
