Hi I'm the newbie around here - few Q's

Postby Slow and wobbly » Sat Oct 16, 2010 5:53 pm

Lost touch with four stroke technology and sportsbikes in general with a sojourn into the hellish world of 2 strokes - Blame the Pied Piper Billy.
Gots me one of them there new fangled ZX9's again ( comparison based upon 1977 2 strokes ) and whilst I still know how to rip it apart and put it back together again it seems that I have lost touch with all that is new in the sportsbike world.
Need new plugs - thats easy CR9Ek's - they haven't changed
Need new oil filter - good o'l HF303
But now I'm stuck.
I used to feed my old 9 with Shell VSX but now there is VSX4 - is this the same stuff with a new name? What else is out there now as a top shelf synthetic oil?
Don't get me started on tyres, Pilot powers were good enough back when they were new but after recently visiting a motorcycle dealer I came away more confused than ever after sales bloke rattled of prefixes and numbers that all equated to basically the same price but were different brands, numbers and prefixes. I see Shinko are back in town has anybody tried them recently?
Online shopping for serviceable items - can anyone recommend a reputable online store for consumables? I loath my local bike store and with work I never get a chance to call into any other when both time and finances allow.
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.

Castrol Power One Race, Motul 7100 or 8100 or Silkolene 15-50w or all good oils. There are many more but I have used all these and found them good in the racebike.

Tyres are like is always a contensious issues as everyone likes something different. If you liked Pilot Powers then go the new Pilot Pures , I have heard nothing but good things about them. Otherwise I like the new Dunlop Qualifer Q2's (nothing like the old Qualifiers), Bridgestone BT016's however Or the new Metzler M5's. I also liked the Perilli Supercorsers on the Motatd.

Not sure about consumables as I have found postage from OS outweighs any cost savings on a $100 sale. For parts however there is heaps of places. eBay is always a good place to start.

Do you live near a SuperCheap Auto store ?

As far as oil goes can get Castrol, Shell & Silkolene from there as well as chain lube, fork oil, brake cleaner etc.

Well you have been buying the Motul anal lube 4000 in the 205L drum for quite a while now ..... judging by the number of empty ones you have in your shed .

Not to mention the 44's of Motul Premium Quality body lube.

Works a treat with a 4 meter sheed of poly

I am currently trying the Shinko ultra soft Stealth front ie "cricket bat " tread and the Apex rear being 2nd softest.
I can say that riding to and from the Gingers creek get together in mostly pouring rain the stick very well, yesterday was chasing a 12r all day around Advancetown and Tambo mountain with nothing but great feed back and feel.

Anyway I need more kms on them to be sure but they are very cheap.
