Done search of site, googled and cant find max / min gap for valve clearances.
Does anyone know them or point me in the right direction?

Valve clearances (cold) C, E & F
Inlet 0.15 to 0.24 mm
Exhaust 0.22 to 0.31 mm

Anything else you need in a hurry I can scan and send if you give me an email addy.

Woooot! all inlet above 015 - but not by much and some are bang on that. Look forward to shimming them next time.
Not sure this bike has ever had its clearances done.
was working from figures from the B model manual and they are listed as 0.18 min for In and 0.22 min for Ex.

Errr scratch that.
After much checking and double checking I'm back. Looks like I'm up for a few shims.
Now to start an argument amongst the gurus.
Tight or max tolerance?
This bike is a track bike and hence spends all of its time at mid to high revs so in respect to this what would be best?
Should the tolerances be as close as possible to one another or so long as they are in tolerance it does not matter?
Is it worth being so pedantic about such things?
Below are the measurements with the current shim listed below it;



EX -Clearance tollerance 0.22 - 0.31
0.20 --- 0.24--- 0.20 --- 0.21 --- 0.20 --- 0.24 --- 0.15 --- 0.15
3.00 --- 2.95 --- 3.05 --- 3.00--- 3.00 --- 2.95 --- 3.05 --- 3.10

IN - Clearance tolerance 0.15 - 0.24
0.15 --- 0.15 --- 0.16 --- 0.15 --- 0.12 --- 0.11 --- 0.18 --- 0.15
2.95 --- 3.00 --- 3.05 --- 3.00 --- 3.05 --- 3.05 --- 3.00 --- 3.00

As you can see I need to change at least 2 inlet shims and 6 exhaust shims and I cant see a way of swapping any amongst themselves to reduce this number If I am to just get those in red back to specified values.
So do I just replace out of spec shims or do I push them all out to the max value in which I think I will need 11 shims?
Any suggestions on sourcing shims - Kawa dealer or is there a reputable aftermarket merchant with good customer service and fast delivery?

was the last place I got some from ( package marked HotCams, so a reputable supplier)

if you are adjusting to the longest interval between re-shimming you'll need the inlets @ 0.24mm and the exhausts @ 0.31mm.

I did mine like this, it has made the engine slightly noisier but it'll quieten down with mileage

Theoretically, the closer you have each bank set, the more in sync they will deliver/exhaust air, also don't forget that the valves wear into the seats, so the clearances will decrease with wear..........

Hey mate try googling precision shims. There in Melbourne, there cheap, and post and reply to emails quickly. When I do mine I go for somewhere in the middle of the tolerance.
