05 zx6 starting problem

Postby budgienutz » Fri Oct 15, 2010 7:19 am

Hi guys
Ive got a problem when starting my zx6
I had detached the electrics off the front of the bike before sending it to the frame straighteners ,now that ive connected it all back up ive got a problem
If the bike is cold i just turns over (no coughs nothing wont start)
If i poor a little petrol down each throttle body it starts and runs fine
and also starts and runs fine while still warm after that
but as soon as its cold again
no go
any idea what i should be looking for?
Never had this problem before i detached the electrics, used to fire soon as i touched the starter

I had an issue a few years ago when the CDI packed up that gave similar symptoms. But tipping a little fuel down the carbies makes me think its a fueling issue as apposed to electric.

I'm sure it can be done at home but i have no idea. I tool mine to a coil expert and he checked it all out.

I still think i's be looking at a fuel issue first, Tank breather clean, Fuel lines crimped or squashed, Crap in the talk etc.

is there a something not plugged in properly that would usually act as the choke? (ie: to make it the fuel mxture richer?)

Sounds like something isn't plugged in to your fuel rail.
Can you hear the fuel pump prime.?
Having done this a few times its easy to miss a plug, theres a lot of em.. :-)

Yeah i hear the fuel pump and ive checked all the connections
and e chacked the spark
but still will not start without fuel being poored down the throttle bodies
the "flaps" at the top of the throttle bodies open wide when i go to start it ,i wouls have thought they,d close up to give it more fuel

Pull it all back apart and find out what you have forgotten to plug back in.

Have you checked your fuel pump is actually flowing enough fuel? If you run it into a container when it does its prime, there should be a certain amount of fuel it pumps out....not sure what it would be for the pump on the 6 but it was around 80-90mL on the Crim (I think) and when mine packed it in it was only pumping around 50mL.

given there is other things not working, i'd say your missed a plug or 2. check all your wiring.

FIXED IT!
Thank you all so much for your help
turned out to be the ecu wasn't plugged in quite properly
it was unplugged as the frame guy had to do a little welding.
so i plugged it back in when i got it back.
turns out it one side hadn't clicked in properly.
and of coarse it was the very last thing i checked today.
i turned the key and the exhaust servo turned.
and i knew i had it then.
Thanks again for the help guys
