I wonder if getting this would help insurance premiums

I'm not talking about my bike as it isn't worth enough to justify an expense like this, but i wonder if anyone has tried fitting a gps tracker unit to their bike like this one. I was looking at the site for something else altogether and this popped out. All you need is a prepaid phone card (ones from virgin last for a year or so) and you can track where your beloved vehicle is easily.

All you need to do is sms the number to either get it to tell you where it is, or to turn gprs tracking on, and it'll track itself on google maps. Just remember to turn it off afterwards though...

A neat gadget, certainly something i'd play with if i had a bike to justify it and spare money falling out of my wallet.

I doubt theft is the main issue for insurance companies when it comes to bikes.

I reakon there would be another reason for claims that is a higher percentage of their total payouts ;)

I suppose so, but it would be a touch reassuring knowing you had one fitted.

Some insurance companies do lower the premium if the bike is fitted with either datadot, immobiliser, garages or any other security device. But then again some don't even ask, all they want to know is where it's kept of a night.

I got $100 off for keeping it garaged :)
