The coldest it's gotten to so far for me this year has been 2 degrees, then take wind chill into account.
Last year I'm sure I left home in sub 0 temps more than once, and add wind-chill to that makes it bloody cold.

You just rug up and deal with it.

Well, I suppose I too have left home when it has been 2 degrees, cause I don't live far from ty, and I ride regardless of the weather.

At this time of year I am wearing Draggin' jeans over tracksuit pants, a dri-rider nordic jacket and a polar fleece neck warmer. If it rains I add a pair of RJays tornado pants.

My fingers and toes sometimes get a bit cold, but the rest of me seems to stay warm enough !

the zx/r doesn't.

It does a little but not much. It deflects from the hands enough that in the summer I can't get much air flow by leaving my jacket wrists undone (which I did on the GPX to keep cool), but not enough that my hands don't get cold. So I guess it doesn't deflect from the hands but does from the wrists if that makes sense.
Hands and neck/chin are about the only bits that get particularly cold.
But then again - I only have summer gloves

Generally I just wear my draggin jeans and rjays jacket with liner. The missus has just knitted me a scarf for neck/chin, but I haven't used it yet. I'll probably get some winter gloves some time in the near future, but I've lived with just the summer ones for 2 years now - a bit longer won't hurt.

Jason mentioned a neck warmer many posts ago (neck warmer ey?), so I
thought I'd investigate, went to kwakka newcastle and they sell 'em for
11 bucks (rjays). Its like a balaclava, that has been chopped
horizontally halfway up. If you took some trakky daks and cut them above
the knee and below the knee, that's kinda the shape. Though different
material.

It covers basically the back of ya head, and from the mouth down (or
below the mouth if ya want).

I find it significantly improves how warm ya feel, cause it stops the
draft coming up between your chin and your helmet...no more cold burnt
face with burning eyes and frozen tears for me! (you sub zero riders'll
know what I mean...)

Nice tip Jase.

Ty - you should consider one mate, although you might get hell from the
missus if you ditch the scarf... ;)

The themral neck-warmer is the difference between freezing, and being comfortable.

And, since I can't wear a balaclava under my helmet (just doesn't fit!!!), I pull it up over my nose as much as possible. This stops those cold day nose-dribbles...

Ian,
Boots are only marked with 'W2' ... no other make, model, etc info on them. They are full leather with armour in the shin and ankle and a rubber shift / scuff pad.

The gloves are Rivett, again all leater and reasonably winterish. I actually looked for a new pair today while I was at Kawasaki Newcastle getting the bike services and couldn't find anything I would replace them with. I am on the lookout for a pair of thermal gloves to wear inside them instead.

Reading back over what I have typed I feel like quite a wimp now ... TY is still in summer gloves, Mario has no neck-warmer, MickC is in sub-zero temps, and here I am still feeling cold :(
I did get a new pair of dri-rider pants today, so I will let you know how they go tomorrow morning.

thanks
Dave
try a pair of silk inners with the gloves....
I use a pair when really cold with my AGVsport gloves ( a midweight glove) and its really good....
the boots...hmmm...
all i can suggest is a pair of ski sox with them
or maybe buy a touring boot (Spidi or like brand)
which generally have a lining in them (and are also mostly waterproof)
I have a pair of the Spidi touring boots..never cold and I don't get wet feet...
and I am a wimp..i have a neck warmer (polar fleece type for really cold weather) and a zip in liner for the dririder (which i use!)
hth

cheers

The new Dri-rider pants are fantastic. Admittedly it was nowhere near as cold today as it has been, but my legs were as warm as toast.

The pants are Dri-rider Summit's. I got them at Kawasaki Newcastle for $269 after discount (retail $299).

They have a removable quilted liner (like most of the jackets), gusseted fly, armour in the knees and hips and are quite comfortable ... I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for something warm and waterproof for winter.

What's more, with the liner zipped out they also have zip-open air vents in the thighs and would probably be reasonably cool in summer (or at least autumn and spring !)

Guys, take it from a seasoned UK rider...........
the best way to go is to nip down to K-Mart and get some thermal long johns and a thermal t-shirt with long sleeves oh and don't forget the thermal hiking socks add a neck tube made out of the fleece material and inner gloves if it gets really cold.
AND if it is really pissing it down...............take the car

hehehe a few of my mates I go riding with can't believe I can ride around with just draggin jeans on in the middle of winter. They have their multiple layers of thermals and winter pants...but then I've got a lot of "natural" insulation too

-6, I thought it was bad here...

I have been covered in snow once, which is pretty impressive when you walk through the Railway Station. And I did get covered in ice a few weeks ago when it was -2, which I scraped off to strange looks while on the platform :P

I have the same problem with my ZZR-600, it's ok on the freeway, but when you get into town at less than 60km/h it generally acts like it won't rev, which is a prick when trying to pull away from a stop.

I had a GPX250 before the 600, the guys on the Ninja 250 Forum in the colder parts of the US/Canada used to either winterise their bike and not ride at all, or attach a piece of cardboard partially across the radiator grill.

I can't wear long-johns, or a thermal singlet, mainly because I overheat on the train. I usually wear my work shirt, crew-neck Kathmandu Polartec jumper, and my waterproof Dainese lined jacket and pants. Long Explorer socks, Alpinestars waterproof boots, Dririder waterproof 'thinsulated' gloves.

I use a 'Fog-Off' breath-diverter mask which has the added benefit of keeping the wind off my neck and chin. The main problem I have is that the jacket does not zip onto the pants, so I often get a cold breeze up my back. I haven't worked out how to fix that one yet

I do cheat by warming my clothes up in front of the heater overnight, they retain the heat long enough for me to get to the train.
