Supercorsas in the wet...

Postby mercho » Mon Mar 29, 2010 8:17 am

Well a few weeks back I upgraded from my 04 zx10r to an 07 10r, and couldn't be happier.Coming off Metzler M1's on the old 10, to supercorsas on the new, the supercorsas seem to have a lot more grip.. in the dry! However in the wet they have nothing!

Went for a ride yesterday afternoon (nice sunny day) to the GF's house, about 40kms away, and that was all fine and dandy, however this morning I had to go to work, and it had been bucketing down over night. I havent really had the Supercorsas in the wet yet, and have been very hesitant to do so, however i decided to give them a go this morning, just being very delicate... Got out onto the hwy with out any dramas, however at 90-100kmh in a straight line i was getting the back end constantly step out! It was ridiculous! It felt like riding on ice and I was being as delicate as possible.

I ended up deciding it wasn't worth the risk, there is a little bit of a semi-twisty section on the way, and that would have been a bundle of laughs, ended up turning around about 3km out of town and riding back and getting the misses car..

So I guess this is just a bit of a heads up, even though you can pretty much tell from looking at the tread pattern on the tyre
Cheers,
Brad

Hi i have not used supercorsas but have ridden in the wet a number of times on gp racers and find them good...

althou i was a bit concerned at first after a few big rides in the wet am really surprised how they gripped...

I wouldn't say completely, but its prob hovering under the 50% mark, there is still a little bit of meat left on it...

In saying that, it really had bucketed down over night, and there was more than the usual amount of water, but still sketchy all the same..
Cheers,
Brad

Disagree, i did a run from vic to the snowys, with these on, we had torrencial rain for three days. You have to be easy on the throttle and know how to ride in the rain. I passed lots of bikes with tyres that were way more rain friendly. Its about being smooth. As for the back stepping out something aint right, at over 200kph (private sealed road of course) mine tracked straight and true in the rain..

I find that even the more grooved Corsa III's are a bit nervous in the wet .. compared to say a PP / PRII.
Should imagine the SC's with minimal centre grooving and zero side tread would be ...... 'interesting'
same as OEM on 848 Duke yeah??

Ie Mate of mine with K4 Gixx running 3/4 worn PP's vs me with 90% near new Corsa III's in the wet (light rain) . He lifting front wheel under accel , me getting the ass end all squirmy (moto X stylin) kinda thing :o
