Would anybody have any clue as to what might be the cause for my 1996 zx7r to cut out intermittently under acceleration,its fine when cruising,but under acceleration it starts to cut out.It seems once i get above 8000rpm it is not such of a problem.Any advice would be much appreciated.Cheers!

Have you cleaned your bike recently with a high-pressure hose and/or have you been caught in torrential rain?

If so try emptying the float bowls on your carburettors as you may have picked up some water in the fuel.

Put a small amount of metho in the tank if you find water in the bowls, this'll help get rid of any residue in there.

Your right on the money there mate.I gave it a wash with a high pressure cleaner this morning,had to do something to keep up with all the Hogly Fergusons that are down here in Tas at the moment,its some sort of rally ,about 3000 of them,but thanks for the advice,now all i gotta do is work out how to drain my carbs,ive never really worked on my bike b4.

You're not alone mate I did the same thing on my ZZR600 5 or so years back, blew water in through the ram-air ducts .

They are a prick of a thing to find, I'm guessing you'll need to remove the fuel tank. On the ZZR the float bowls were glass, by the looks of the Kawasaki diagrams you're not so lucky:

Click on 9 CARBURETOR PARTS . The part you're looking for is: 92009B 92009-1551 SCREW,DRAIN,M6X0.75 4

Ive pulled the tank off,about 50 pipes,looked at it,thought i might be getting over my head,so put it all back together,and hey presto ,i took it for a blast and its going fine.Dont know what i did but it must have fixed the problem.

maybe a vent tube was pinched the last time the thing was put back together?

its pretty easy to get to the carbie bowls, my way is the extreme coz if i'm going to drain them i want to know whats in them to see if there is crap in them aswell. just need to loosen the screws between the carbies and head and pull them off. Remember to disconnect the coolant lines on either side of the carbies. disconnect the throttle{both"} and choke cables.
Youll see 4 screws at the back under the carbies, with some little plastic funnels. Have to use a small allen key to loosen them and presto they will drain out.

Same thing happened to me.

I have no idea how the water got in there but I did wash it just before.... I thought it might have been dodgy petrol too.

Anyways, drained the bowls, thought it was fixed... then it came back.

Drained them again, then came back.

Had a good look in the tanks LOTS of water in the bottom.

Tanks drained and flushed, perfect ever since.

Check if you can see water bobbing around the the fuel.
