Indicator trouble on the Kawonda

Postby ty » Wed Oct 07, 2009 8:44 am

Hey electrical gurus - I'm being lazy as I don't really have time to do a lot of investigation, so I'm hoping you guys will jump at the problem for me...

The Kawonda currently has 2 led indicators on the back, 2 clear std indicators on the front, and a 6V led relay (yes, even though it's a 12v system).

Problem is that on Sunday I noticed the front right indicator had blown. No big deal I thought, I have spares. Can replace it before the rego check on Friday (this Friday).
Replaced the globe today - no change. In fact the indicators are behaving weird, leading me to think there's a problem in the circuit which caused the globe to blow in the first place.

Situation is thus...

Indicate left - all (3 - front right still not working even with new globe) indicators flash
Indicate right - rear right indicator flashes

Any light-bulb ideas about what the problem is? Or am I resorting to searching? (or telling the mechanic and getting him to fix it)

I checked the wiring at the front, around the front right indicator specifically, and everything's connected fine - nothing seems loose or crossed. But didn't have time to look for much more. I used to be decent at electrical stuff in early high-school, but have gotten somewhat rusty over the 20 years since, so treat me like I'm clueless.

TIA
ty

Go wasteland mate and ditch the lot.......won't get you through rego but think of the weight savings.

ty

2 things for a quick check
earth connections for the indicator lamps/globes
and check the switch itself (the internals can wear and give 4 indicators at once...or none)
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

Glen - the new ones are already at least half the weight of the originals ;)
Thanks smitty - I did a quick check of some of the wiring, but didn't think of the switch, will have a look

Smitty - looks like you were spot on, but my eyeballing failed.
Mechanic found an earth problem in the indicator that blew a globe - all sorted now.

On a separate but related note she had a big service today (almost $500 all up), and found she had no fork oil!
I'd been riding for who knows how long with just the springs. The seals were a 'if you have time mate' item, as he said with no oil residue on the forks he thought it was just dirt being pushed up and he'd pass it for rego no probs.
Lucky he had time

Handles differently now (after the short home trip assessment), has heavier fork oil than normal - gonna have to get used to it again
