ZXR 750 shims

Postby parto » Wed Sep 30, 2009 7:13 am

I'm just starting to rebuilt my ZXR 750 92 model and have noticed that all the shim tolerancers are around 2 hundreths above top tolerence?

Is this common practice cause i only just got the bike and have no service history on it, I like to aim for mid tolerence.??

Also the cam lobes are on the smallest size of the tolerance settings the bike has done 89,000kms.

cheers

I just had the shims done on my race bike, and they are all set at the max tolerance - biggest gap. They tighten up over time so its better to have em there.
If the cams are in tolernace there'll be fine, but it could be the opportunity to change em for ones that will give a little more HP. I think the ones of the K model are the go.??

I thought because the cam lobes and rocker arms will wear that the gap will increase

They shouldn't wear as much as the valve clearances will tighten.
Valves get checked and adjusted every 24000ks your cam has taken 89000ks to get to the lower limit.. :-)
