Spongy brakes on 09 Ninja 250

Ok so have done 3,000 km on the Ninja, and don't really think that should warrant spongy brakes, but maybe it does. Question would it be worth bleeding the brakes and putting in new brake fluid.

Being a newb yeah I may use the brakes a lil more but I don't grab them going through corners or anything like that on the odd occassion I set up before a corner using them but generally use the gears and have used the gears a fair amount to try and slow down when approaching lights or other stopping situations unless have to do an emergency brake but yeah just in the last week or so the brakes have felt not as firm as they did to begin with, any ideas or is it possible I am using the brakes a lil more than normal, or is it just general wear and tear.

Sanks
Dizzmister

They shouldn't be spongy Diz. If you don't get it sorted before the weekend feel free to bring it over for a look-see.

hrmmm i never noticed this on mine dizzi, maybe i could test ride it for you :P

but seriously i never noticed "spongy" brakes, even at the track, they faded, but never felt spongy and that was with a lot more abuse than you are giving them...

maybe give em a bleed (i assume this is something dave3 would look at), check the calipers and maybe see if u prefer the feel of a different brake pad

HTH :D

Maybe the dial for the sensitivity got turned. A couple of times i noticed that on my bike, the brakes felt different, not sure if someone changed it during the service but i never did :?

I dont even know what spongy is, can someone clarify this with me.

Dizzi, the bike is so new its probably just got some air in the lines as with most things new they arent always 100% perfect out of the box. Personally Id have the dealers service guys look at it under warranty. Dave#3 is just too handy though to say No too and he generally knows what hes doing ;)

Yeah the problem is they were perfect till I got it serviced, I'm happy for Dave to have a look at it, I trust him a hell of a lot more than I trust the mechanic who did the service. :kuda:

Not the only one dizzi who had their clutch lever wound out too far :( did bikebiz do yours?

.

Ninja 250r dont have the dial just the ol' school set up, of lever and master cylinder.
spongy means more play in the lever of the brake and isnt really a firm feel in the lines if that helps

Bike is all better now. It had a few little air bubbles in the line which we bled last night and today Dizzi said they were heaps better. :D
