Electronic Speedo for the postie

Question for the electrical gurus...

I'm thinking of getting an electronic speedo for the postie sometime (mentioned in my other thread). I'm sick of breaking speedo cables, and wouldn't mind an accurate speedo.
But I'm starting to wonder if the postie's electrical system would be up for it or not.

The postie has a 12V system (battery apparently puts out 3AH).
I've been thinking of something like this Acewell speedo (but perhaps finding something cheaper) - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Acewell-2853-dig ... dZViewItem
Have to say being able to hook up a fuel sensor and a tacho would be sweet

Does anyone know if I'd have problems with potentially overloading the circuit? or what sort of information I need to chase up to determine if I'll have problems?
Or will it just work?

Bike speedo mate, works on a lithium 3V cell that will last you 12 months + and costs less than $5.

But that won't give me indicator or high beam um - indicators. And it's more easily pinchable when parked at the station.
Nor will it give fuel, tacho or oil temp readings
Unfortunately I don't think it'd pass rego either. Something like the above link should though.

Ah, so then you don't want a 'speedo', you want a instrument cluster like the $249 unit at the link you have specified .

I don't think they'd use a great deal of power, LCDs draw bugger-all and the LEDs won't either, all up a fraction of an amp I reckon.

At the manufacturer's page: http://www.acewell-meter.co.uk/en_uk/specifications/index.htm they mention the possibility of running it off a battery (the PP3 is the little 9V unit you use in a smoke detector).

Thanks Mick - kinda what I thought but wanted confirmation.
And yes, I guess I am after an instrument cluster - I want to replace the current 'speedo'/instrument cluster with something better.

I'd seen the manual for that unit, but missed the extra battery option you saw.
Might just put it on the list (or something similar) for when I can afford it and see how it goes.

From what you've said it, or similar, shouldn't strain the system.
