Gday guys,

just picked up my new monster edition zx6r last week, I have finished running her in and am looking to make some performance upgrades.

I already have a fender eliminator (shhhh its performance dammit) im getting pazzo levers soon, and I am fairly set on a full akropovic CF and Ti system with a K&N airfilter. what else can I do to the bike to increase the fun factor and power? will a powercomander and dynotune be necessary after installing the full system and air filter?

thanks a lot,

Daniel

I'd say so. Nice choice of system BTW.

yeah dyno tune will be needed with the filter and full system, plus it will yeild more performance which is exactly what you're after!! 8)

alright sweet, looks like it will be a few months before I get the required funds together for all of that, time which will be well spent learning to ride the bigger bike...

I can't believe the power that the 6 puts out stock though, its pretty incredible. wish I could get a 10 engine in the 6 package however. I test road both back to back and the 6 was heaps heaps better in every category except the engine...

anyway, if anyone can think of other things to bling it up tastefully and increase performance, feel free to let me know in here..

haha, nice one :)

yeah im hoping to be in on the group buy of pazzo's.

the look I want for my bike at the end of its life I reckon will be as much carbon fibre as possible, unpainted, just the stock sticker kit placed on top of the clearcoated carbon.

will match my new HJC helmet :)

im probably going to grab a set of monster stickers from the dirtbike set, and chuck a few on the helmet.

on the topic of the akropovic system, where do you guys reckon I can get it for the cheapest?

my dealer estimated $3600 for the full ti and CF system, but I reckon I can get it cheaper than that online either here or from the states... or possibly a dealer in sydney? I'm going through cesnock kawasaki connection at the moment. He gave me the best price on the bike straight away over the phone, plus he owns a team racing them in the superstock series. (his son in fact..)

so any recommended places to get the system from?

thanks,

Daniel

It's been said many times before, but I'm going to say it again - spend some money tightening the nut that connect the handlebars to the seat. Just a few hundred dollars on rider training will not only make you considerable quicker than most upgrades, but will help you rider safer too.

From you initial post you mentioned getting used to the bigger bike, so I assume you have stepped up from a 250. Did you have chicken strips on the 250? Did you ever scrape a peg? Could you honestly say you rode the 250 to the full potential of the bike? The honest answer is probably no. What I'm getting at, is that with the power increase from the 250 to 600, do you really need to spend loads of money making it faster? I very much doubt that you are capable of using the bike to it's full potential from stock.

If you really want the bike to go better, learn to ride it better. If you still feel the bike is seriously lacking after that, have the shocks rebuilt to suit your weight and riding style. The bike will drive better under power, but will also corner much better too (Not that the new 6 is bad in the twisties).

As for full system and K&N filter, the bike will possible run worse without a power commander. It will be breathing much easier, but will not be getting extra fuel so will run lean. You will have to get the power commander and have it mapped on the dyno to suit the bike and exhaust system.

gday mike,

Thanks for the input, and normally I would agree with you, but i've been riding for 3 years, my old bike was a yamaha szr 660 (wikipedia it if interested) and I have no untouched rubber on the edges of my tyres (old bike or new :P)

I already have money set aside for suspension setup, I know a guy in sydney thats awesome with it.

(and I've done trackdays at EC and 2 advanced rider training courses).

so yes, I would like (and use) the increase in performance. I don't think the bike is seriously lacking, however after test riding all the current 1000cc bikes, I would love a more powerful engine in the zx6 frame.

cheers for the advice regarding the power commander, my dealer (who races them in superstock) said that it would be fine without a powercommander as the bike self rectifies itself within a range of variables. He did however say that a power commander and dyno tune would add further performance gains.

do you have an opinion on this? do you think it will self-rectify or require remapping?

Cheers,

Daniel

That Yamaha is one damn ugly bike, sorry ........ as for the six mods I think the full system is over the top but its your cash ;)
Full system + PC........... Slip on no PC
Note with the CF lid.... keep it out of the sun  I had one (diferent Brand) & they change colour rapidly ... like within a year of daily use :?
My one ended up a crappy yellowish colour & got binned it looked that bad.... it was an AXO

yeah I know the yammy is super ugly :) it has a lot of character heh, and goes like stink around corners ;)

thanks a lot for the heads up about the CF lid, I won't be happy if the HJC does the same thing...
