Hey guys, Bit of a stupid newb question here,I want to do an oil change on my bike halfway between services just to keep it all nice inside. Will I have to change the filter as well or will i get away with just oil? Also will it be ok to run a fully synthetic with only 3000k's? Thanx in advance Dave.......

Generally i always change the filter when i change the oil. mine only costs $15 so its not a huge impact to the wallet and it cant hurt the bike.

As for the synthetic stuff, im not sure...

I think full synth is OK at over 3000ks, and you don't have to change the filter for mid oil changes (I don't) but as there only about $10 from Flywheels you can.. :-)

Wattie tells me they have Castrol Power 1 full synthetic at the helmet warehouse for $30.!!!

If thats true, SOMEONE GRAB IT ALL...!!!!

or just get some for me and you.. :-)

generally you should change the filter with the oil to try and keep the old oil from mixing with the new oil to a minimum but at 3000k's that might not be nessacary.....ever since after my first service i have had full synthetic in the bike, it has just been the way that it has been serviced where i take it!!! :D

He probly heard about how you ride.. :-)

and btw, if and when you change to full synth, definately change the filter for that one... don't mix the min and the synth..
Then stick to 1 brand and type of oil if you can..

I allus has a Motul 5100 10W 40 on the wife's CBR600F, and 10W 50 on the GPz1100 'cos it's old and decrepit and rattles. Change every 2500 - 3000, but I don't do the filter at the in-between change. I suppose I'm thinking that if it's half the service interval, it's a bonus change. And I've got to shift the pipes to get to the filter on the GPz now.

The filter on mine looks like a bit of a pain too, but apparently it can be done with only removing "1" fairing....hopefully :D

Always change filter if you are changing oil type/brand or if you do not know what oil is in there. After 3000K I'd go Semi synthetic, not fully till 6,000km. I run semi all the time, just my preference. My prefered brand is Silkolene, have it in every part of the race bike (brake fluid, oil, even chain lube).

Dave do you want me to see if I can get some Castrol Power 1 from work and bring it to the Xmas trackday? Not sure what we have to pay for, but working at Castrol head office should have some advantages

So if you can get it cheaper than that I'm certainly up for a couple...
